The gentle breeze swept across her.

It was still summer, but the onset of autumn was near, and this was the first of so few precious days that are overwhelmingly mild.

She sat in the cool grass at the bottom of some man-made hill, reclining against her bent arms.  Cars passed by, unaware, while nonchalant students lazily walked toward campus.  A cacophony of ambient sounds serenaded this seemingly choreographed routine.  She watched.  She watched and then peered through the action, focusing on the natural world beyond.  The breeze was still stirring.  It swept in waves across the verdant lawn and tossed the wispy tufts of the shrubs.  The crisp air delighted her:  the scent, the cool temperature that felt so foreign by late summer.  But the sun was climbing.  It was low in the sky still, but the soft rays warmed her between breezes, and the stark light shone gold through her delicate hair.
