I just got back from visiting family in Kansas and Oklahoma. The trip wasn’t nearly as boring as it usually is because we actually got to go places and do things. My dad and his parents took me to an Oklahoma history museum in Oklahoma City and got to see all sorts of local kids’ shows and radio programs that my dad remembered from childhood. There

Ugh, them's fightin' words. So, was this person implying that it's the citizens' fault? That would be ridiculous. I will point fingers at politicians, though. I mean, I'm basically under the impression that our local politicians keep us behind everyone else. We never get anything done here, it seems, but if politics weren't so corrupt, perhaps New Orleans would've been prepared for Katrina?
The most my family has EVER had to deal with was a stolen lawn mower and a porch plant.
True, but y'all are just one example. Nevertheless, I hate it when people make generalizations like everyone is in constant danger and has had some horrible experience.
But in reference to all of that, it's annoying as hell to me when people just start dissing New Orleans (or any place in Louisiana) when they clearly don't know what they're talking about. It really offends me.
Sounds like those museums were a good time!

True, we are only one example. It's not that there isn't a crime problem but, like you said, it's not like we are in constant danger. I just really bugged me that my Nana said that when she has experienced Kansas City's crime. My family there always act like it's a much safer city. They've been saying it for years and it gets really old.
Oh, and the museums were great!

I'd like to hear her explanation of how Florida prepares for high flood waters. "At leas in Florida we always...turn on our automatic house risers when we hear about potential hurricanes? ...enclose our cities in big plastic bubbles 24 hours before landfall?...start pumping up our inflatable levees when we see tropical storms?" Right. Someone tell me what kind of preparation is going to stop a house from flooding. Preparation means you know how to get out safely, calmly, and can sustain yourself in a disaster. Preparation is not the same as avoiding the disaster because some disasters you can't feasibly prevent (at least as a citizen or regular old resident). I would really like to know what she thinks Florida does that New Orleans does not. Does Florida have levees? Would Florida's levees and canals have broken? Methinks yes.
People have some funky ideas about New Orleans these days. Thanks, national media! -_-
