East Village Opera Company redux
Let's travel back in time one day to this entry.
Tonight, we went and saw this band in concert, and after being utterly blown away by them, I am here to inform you that you need to listen to this band. They have two full albums streaming for free on their MySpace page, so there is no excuse not to. And if you like them, pass them along!
These people take opera and classical music and meld it into contemporary style. Not a new idea, but their methods are unique, and far more varied and accessible than any I've heard before. They have Zeppelin Wagner. They have pop Faust with a children's choir and, for some reason, a hip-hop twist. On stage, they have a violin vs. guitar duel. All of them are fantastic musicians.
None of this makes any sense, and yet it is some bizarre form of perfection, brought to us not by mortal creatures but by strange aliens who have absorbed an entire chronology of our species' culture and thrown parts of it back on us in a new, refreshing format. Listen to this band.
