Chapter 9

Today is his 16th birthday. Time flies so fast. They are on the park and held the party there. Kids are wearing party hats and goofing around the different rides. Jaejoong wanted to celebrate his birthday with kids from pre-school and first grade as to remember his first time in this town.

“Jaejoong-hyung, why are you not enjoying your party? It’s not every year grandma is throwing a party like this. You know that and you’re lucky.” Junsu smiled but Jaejoong couldn’t understand his smile. Sure, their grandma doesn’t usually throw a party like this. In fact, it’s the first time he’s ever having a party in remembrance of his birthday. Thanks to the sudden click of their restaurant that they get to breathe rather peacefully. They were even sent to a private school. But that’s not what’s bothering him. Junsu’s mysterious smile is what bothers him. Could it be that he’s envy? He suddenly became nervous, scared that Junsu regrets his appearance in his life already.

“I-I’m sorry, Junsu. I didn’t mean to come into your lives and―”

“Jaejoong-hyung, you know? You are the best thing that came to my life so far, of course, aside from granny and my future prince. If you’re not here, I would still be lonely by now.” Junsu smiled shyly, embarrassed due to the sudden outburst of his gratefulness and also due to the mention of his prince.

“Thank y―WHAT?!” Jaejoong’s supposed-to-be reply was interrupted by his surprise. “You didn’t just tell me ‘future prince’, right? Kim Junsu, please tell me what I heard is not what you’re supposed to mean.”

“What, hyung? My future prince! My prince charming!” Junsu widened his eyes and squealed to defend his belief.

“Oh, Kim Junsu!”

“Hyung, I can’t help it. And… I have this feeling you’re gay, too!” Junsu laughed and hugged his brother from behind to lock his arms and prevent himself from getting hit.

“Don’t make me die on my birthday!” Jaejoong screamed. The people around laughed at them, appreciating the lovely scene made by the siblings.

“I can feel it, hyung! And, I know it.”

“How do you know it?”

“I’ve read your diary and―”

“Don’t continue. I don’t want to hear.”

“―you have a crush on―”

“I am warning you, kid.”

“―on that archer named―”

“I am telling you, Su.”

“―Jin Yinhan.”

Jaejoong blushed and soon, he was released from the younger male’s embrace and they are chasing each other around the park. When they reached the hill where they’re usually spending their free time after school (even after they graduated elementary), they lay there with their hands under their heads as a pillow.

“You know, hyung, it is fine. Just be what you are. Grandma won’t be mad if we say we’re both gay.”

“I know but―”

“But you’re afraid of what the society may say? Hyung, it’s not about your stand in life; it’s not about the opinion of the society. It’s about your happiness. There’s no law about holding back your happiness just to be able to blend in the society.”

“I know. But, you know, Su… I really don’t like Yihan to that extent. Uhm…”

“You liked him because he is JYH?”

“He is not JYH.”

“You liked him because he has the same initial as the person of your dreams? …that JYH that sent back a paper plane with the note inside? Hyung! You don’t even know how old that is. Maybe, at the time you were seven, he is already 30+ and, no! I don’t want my only brother to be taken by a pedophile!” Jaejoong laughed at his brother’s remark. It has been nine years since that happened and Jaejoong still cannot move on. His heart hopes that someday, at least, he wants to know the name of the person who sent the plane back.

‘The person said it’ll be away for a while. I wonder where it is. Wait. It is safe to use it since I don’t know its gender, right?’ Jaejoong thought and sighed.

“I don’t know, Junsu. I just want to see it.”

“It?”

“Is it not safe to refer to that person as an ‘it’ since I still don’t know its gender?” Junsu laughed at him punched his arm playfully.

“Hyung, you’re really a genius! Give me some of your brain!”

“No, that’s not fair. You have all the butts and it’s fair for me to have the brains!”

“Not my butt!” Junsu exclaimed and they chased each other again.

-

“We arrived!” Yunho stretched his arms when he settled inside the car, hitting his best friend’s face in the process.

“Yo, young man! My handsome face is being hit by your filthy hands!” The other man whined and looked at the mirror.

“Excuse me but my hands aren’t filthy. It is your face which is filthy.”

“Watch it! Aish~ hyung! I hate you!”

“No one said I like you, Park Yoochun!”

Yunho slightly smiled at himself while his eyes are closed. Since they were kids, Park Yoochun always says he’s handsome and he’ll often look at his reflection in the mirror just like a girl. We’ll he really is handsome but he’s too conceited. Yoochun is the butler’s son. Yunho was shocked knowing that his uncle butler slash second father has a son, born the same year as he was but he’s still older, but his shock was replaced by happiness for at last, he will have someone to play with. They grew up, always bickering with each other, but deep inside them, they know they love each other… but, no, not to the point that they are totally in-love with each other.

Yoochun is popularly known around night clubs and bookstores. He spends his day in the bookstore, aside from school, searching for books to read. At night, he will go to clubs and there, he’ll read the book while flirting. What a weird man. He is also a bi-sexual; he can play around the bedroom with either boys or girls. Yunho shook his head slightly while thinking of his best friend’s life.

“Sup, man?” Yoochun asked when he noticed the calmness of his best friend’s face.

“Nothing.”

“Next time, Jung, finish your work early so I don’t have to fetch you from the airport. Next time, remind me not to go earlier especially if we’re going in the same place because as I said, I don’t want to fetch you. Wait, did I say that before? Oh, well. And next time, don’t disturb my peaceful morning with your constant whines, ‘Chunnie ah! Fetch me in the airport! There are lots of people in here!’ and ‘Chunnie ah! Why did you leave me?’ Seriously, bro, you sound like gay begging for his partner to penetr―”

“I understand, Yoochun. You don’t have to use your nasty examples!”

“Hey, those are not nasty. But, anyway, you told me about the first and last time you went here. That was like, eight or nine years ago.”

“Nine.” Yunho corrected.

“Whatever. So, you also mentioned about a pretty-ass boy who looks like a girl and how you fell for him even though you’re just seven and his paper planes. Uh, you get it.”

“I do, Yoochun, but you need not use the term pretty-ass.”

“That’s so not me if won’t use that.” Right! Yoochun is not Yoochun if he won’t use those words. “So, what now? I mean, what’s your plan?”

“I don’t know? Search for him and marry him?” He answered sarcastically. “Heck, I don’t even know his name. How would I know him after nine years of not seeing him?”

“There’s a thing called, um. A thing called… it’s called… Hehe. I forgot.”

“You mean the leap of blood or the sense of connection? Do you believe that, Park?”

“Oh, cut it, Jung! I know what you’re up to. Shut it, okay? Just sleep for a while my little bestie since you’re getting so much stress whenever you ride a plane.” Yoochun patted Yunho’s shoulder in attempt to shove the approaching bullying session of the guy.

“Who wouldn’t be stressed if your bastard of a father is the one operating the plane but you couldn’t get to see him. It’s been nine years since I last saw him. Do you think his looks changed? I mean, is he still handsome like me? Do we still look alike?”

“You know, Jung, dad is right. When you were young, you think like an adult, when you’re almost an adult you’re turning into a little kid. You’re aging backwards.”

“Whatever, Park. I’m going to take a nap.”

After an hour or so, Yunho was awakened and was informed that they’re almost near. It’s been a long time since he last went in the place. Nothing much changed; only a few to improve the look of the rural-looking city. There are new stores and something else that he believes he hasn’t seen before. They passed a park and there’s an event there. There’s a banner that says, ‘Happy Birthday Kim Jaejoong from Grandma and the kids!’ Yunho believed that the party celebrant is a kid, too. He spotted two boys; looking the same age as he is or younger, chasing each other around a bump of land that looked like a hill. He remembered his Little Pilot. His little pilot used to spend his time there every afternoon. He wonders where he is now.

“Jung, flashbacks?” Yoochun asked, referring to the slight smile that keeps on appearing and disappearing on his face.

“Those kids are so happy, playing around.”

“Don’t be so dramatic. After insisting to be alone and being anti-social, you are envying them? Blame yourself!”

“I am saying they look happy. I didn’t say anything else, did I?”

“But you’re implying that!”

Yunho ignored his best friend until the car came to a stop. They are in front of the huge gates with a ‘Jung’ on the side to make everyone know that the house is a property of the Jungs. The gates opened automatically, which is new to him, after the driver typed in some numbers on the side of the gate.

“Hah! Yun! I was surprised too by the gates at first. I know that’s possible with all your riches and money, but, whoa! I didn’t expect your old man would install such thing as that. That’s so, wow! We could exchange family!” Yoochun exclaimed when they got off the car.

“I will be more than willing to exchange my family.” Yunho answered.

“I heard that, Choong. Do you hate it to be a part of my family?” Someone butted in and Yunho swore he could tear his cheeks by the wide smile he has on his face.

“Uncle Butler! I missed you!” Yunho ran to the butler and hugged him.

“Jung, remember he’s still my father and no, dad. I am just making him realize how lucky he is and please, oh god, don’t call me with that name again! That’s a major turn off if anyone hears you calling me that!” Yoochun flailed on his way to his father and hugged him also. His father was in Japan for almost a month and he just got back to Korea.

“How long have you been here?” Yunho asked.

“I just arrived not more than 10 minutes ago. Now, go get changed for now and enjoy your stay. I’ll go somewhere first to submit my reports.”

“Leaving again?” Yunho asked.

“I’ll be back not more than a week. Maybe tomorrow and―”

“Fine, just go.” If you thought Yoochun’s family is better than Yunho’s because of his father-butler, well you’re wrong. He is also having his heavy feelings whenever his dad goes away. It’s almost no different from Yunho’s case. His only advantage is that his father is naturally lovable and loving. That is also the reason why he chose to be closer to Yunho that his dad… so when he’s away, there’s Yunho to care for him.

When the butler walked away, Yunho patted Yoochun’s shoulder and whispered, “I know how you feel, Chun. Let’s just get lost.” Yoochun grinned as he knows what Yunho meant. A day without guards means a day with so much fun.

After changing his clothes, Yunho sat to the chair beside the window. His room hasn’t changed one bit. He noticed a box under the table with a label ‘new’. He wondered what is it that is new until he opened the box and gasped in surprise. For almost a year already, the butlers had stopped sending him the planes with notes. He thought that the sender has stopped making, too. He just knew that everything is stocked in here and he is to read everything.

For over two hours, he finished reading everything. Of course, he rushed reading because he is too excited. He noticed the improvement in the handwriting and he smiled for that. However, there’s only one letter that he can’t leave and he find himself going back to reading it every once in a while.

You said you’ll be away for only a while. Are you that scary guy whom I saw picking my paper planes up every afternoon? I guess you’re not. Please, be not. It’s already been nine years and you only sent my plane back once. Have you forgotten me? Or, you’ve already solved your problems and you don’t need me anymore?

I just want to know you. I want to hear your voice. I want to know your name. I want to meet you. I want to see your face. I want to be your friend. Nine years ago, I always get the feeling that you’re watching me and I miss that feeling. Tomorrow is my birthday. For the past years, my only wish for my birthday is to know you… or at least your gender. On my birthday tomorrow, I will wish to see you or get a reply from you. I miss that old feeling. Take care, my passenger.

―KJJ

Yunho thought for a while. ‘KJJ? Is it possible that it is the most recent plane he did? He’s the birthday boy there? Kim Jaejoong. He’s still doing that even after years.’

“I miss the feeling when I’m watching you, too.” Yunho said and later, he found himself strangling someone to death.

“PARK YOOCHUN! DON’T DARE BARGE IN TO MY ROOM AND STARTLE ME LIKE THAT AGAIN!” Yunho is yelling at the top of his lungs while he is glaring and is on top of Yoochun.

“You look like you’re raping me the kinky way.” Yoochun managed to say even though Yunho’s hand is on his throat. Yunho immediately let go of the other man and sat up. He looked for a paper and pen, and wrote something. After that, he folded the paper and made a plane.

“Wow, Jung. You’re an expert. Tell me sometimes how to do that plane!” Yoochun commented sarcastically. The other just ignored him.

“Let’s go!” Yunho dragged Yoochun outside the mansion with the guards following them.

They reached the park and hid behind the bush.

“Awwe, man! What’s this?” Yoochun whined.

“Shut up!” Yunho hissed and stared at the two running men.

“Whoa, look there! There’s a cute butt-y man over there! His ass bouncin’ like, whoa!” Yoochun gasped then narrowed his eyes while staring at the man he just described. Yunho ignored him again and his eyes caught the guards behind him.

“Aish! You’re here, too? Go, hide somewhere!” The guards did as they’re told. They hid on another bush but made sure they two youngsters are still reaching their sight.

Yunho saw the two figures stopped and panted, but they are facing their back.

“The butt is facing me, OMG!” Yoochun whispered.

“What the fuck?” Yunho hissed again, trying to shut the mouth of his pervert of a friend. He waited for the February wind to blow, and when it did, he immediately stood up and threw the plane. He crossed his fingers, wishing that it would land on the men’s feet and he mentally jumped when it did. He hid back on the bush but made sure he still sees the two.

“That is so brave of you, Jung.” Yoochun laughed breathily while Yunho blushed madly.

Jaejoong and Junsu finally came to a stop after running around several times.

“Hyung! Let’s get back to your party!” Junsu pulled Jaejoong but Jaejoong didn’t bulge.

“Did you hear that, Su?” Jaejoong asked.

“Hear what?”

“I heard someone laughing.”

“I didn’t hear someone.”

Jaejoong looked around but spotted no one. He looked down, Junsu also did, and to their surprise, there’s a paper plane near their feet. Jaejoong bent to pick it up. He opened it and his mouth automatically formed a smile.

“He’s back…” He whispered, enough for Junsu to hear it.

“Who?”

“THIS IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!” Jaejoong shouted and skipped back to the party.

“Hyung, wait!”
