Chapter 16

The boy stared at the sky and waited for a plane to pass. It has been 15 years since he last saw his mom. He is a college freshman now and the rooftop is his newfound hangout. He doesn’t hang with his brother so often now because they had different departments: he was on the music department which is on the north of the school while his brother went his way to the human kinetics department which was on the south with a dream of being able to teach dance or soccer.

He sighed and stared at the clouds. A faint smile appeared on his face as a plane passed.

‘Umma, I’m in college now. After I finish studying, I will find you.’ He smiled and picked out his phone to dial a number.

“Junsu-ah!” He called when the receiver answered the phone.

Hyung, how is your day at school?

“It’s fine. Same old, same old. You know how it goes when we’re still high school.”

I see. Same here. Most of my classmates are from high school and I don’t feel like talking to them. Have you had lunch? I’ll kill you if you haven’t. It’s almost two in the afternoon.

“I did! Thanks for your concern. Are you doing something, Junsu-ah?”

To be honest, I’m in the middle of exercising but if you wish to have a longer phone call with me, I won’t mind.

“O-oh, I didn’t mean to bother you. I will hang up now.”

No, hyung. If you want to talk I will―

“I’ll hang up now.” He said with a stern voice as he pressed the end call button. He looked down and smiled. It was rather refreshing looking down than looking up. He remembered being scolded by everyone because he doesn’t look down. He often tripped or misses something because he rarely looked down. As he entered college, he built a habit of looking down because of avoiding everyone. He grew up as a shy boy but it doesn’t mean he didn’t interact with everyone. He is friendly in his own way but people themselves are distant to him. He took his notebook from his bag and stared at it.

‘It has been two years.’ He thought as he flipped it on the first page. The notebook is his diary. He wrote everything in it and it has also been his best friend aside from Junsu. On the back of the cover pasted a picture from his ‘lover’ two years ago.

“I wonder how you look now, Yunho. I’ve changed a lot physically, I think. Of course, I grew and I will still grow. But you? I always wanted to see you, but you won’t let me.” He talked to the picture until he heard a footsteps directing towards him and he turned his head just to see no one.

Putting his things back in his bag, he heard another footsteps and he slowly looked back to see no one again. Letting out a frustrated sigh, he shakes his head and was about to stand when someone grabbed him from the back and covered his eyes and mouth to prevent him from seeing the culprit and from shouting.

“Don’t scream, I’ll let go of your mouth.” Jaejoong’s muffled screams came to a stop and he is panting heavily. He was scared. What if he’s going to be raped? Or robbed? Or worst is killed?

The culprit let go of his mouth and giggled. He has a deep voice.

“Do you remember me?” The man asked.

“N-no, who are you?” Jaejoong whispered, afraid that a little louder volume of his voice might bring him to death. Jaejoong couldn’t take the fast beat of his heart as he collapsed to the ground.

“Oh, shit! What have I done?” The man cursed as he tried to wake Jaejoong up.

Today is one of Yunho’s most boring days as he is once again boring his nose at the book he’s reading. He has no one to talk to today because his bestfriend was asked by his father to get something from somewhere Yunho doesn’t know. He’ll be back at night and Yunho cursed mentally at the thought of being bored until night. He has no friends at all as he is still the anti-social Yunho before. A lot tried to approach him and create friendship but he simply scared them away. He always thought that he could live alone in the outside and that he’ll have people to talk to at home.

“Yunho-ssi, I made this for you.” Some random girls approached him and gave him a heart-shaped cake. He is not just a smart, friendless student but also girls’ man of fantasy. Not that he cares about that but he just can’t get to thinking that girls are practically forcing themselves towards him. He finds it annoying and at the same time, disgusting.

‘They really should remember that they are girls and courting is job for guys.’ He thought and smiled towards the flirting girls. He stood up and stepped three steps backward before he bowed to them.

“I’m sorry but I can’t accept that. But, I have to go. Take care.” He couldn’t just accept anything. Who knows if they put some potion there? He walked towards his class room and waited for the teacher to come and start his lessons.

Hours had passed and Yunho didn’t notice it much. His mind was focused on the teacher’s lectures. He is in college and majoring in business management but also have special lessons at home for flying planes. Aside from the fact that one of their businesses is an airport, he also grew a fetish for planes because of the man that kept him living with purpose; Jaejoong. He missed the letters coming from the guy, and above all, he missed the guy himself. He remembered reading one of Jaejoong’s letters saying that he wants to work in a plane as anything because he wants to search for his mom. Yunho found that amusing, how Jaejoong loves to make paper planes so much and even dreamed of riding an actual plane. He decided to focus, among all the business they had, to the airport as he wants to help Jaejoong someday, when they meet again.

The teacher came to his place and handed him a paper. At first, he was confused as to what it is until he found a ‘surprise test’ at the top center of the paper. He looked around and saw his classmates having long faces and obviously stressing themselves out over the simple test. He grinned and thanked his brains for being smart. He took his pen and started scribbling down his answers with a smile on his face; thinking of a familiar smile to ease the growing stress he’s starting to feel.

“A-ah.” Jaejoong groaned when he opened his eyes and was welcomed by the light from the sky.

“Ehem.” Someone caught his attention and he immediately moved back.

“W-who are you?”

“Jaejoong hyung, don’t you remember me?” The man pouted. Jaejoong’s scared face turned into a confused one and then he pointed the man with his pointer finger.

“Oh, shoot! I recognize that forehead!” Jaejoong laughed and the man choked on his own saliva.

“Of all the things you can recognize, why the forehead?”

“Yoochunniiiie! Did Junsu already know you’re here?”

“I don’t know his number―”

“Oh, right. He lost his phone!”

“―but I had lunch with him.” Jaejoong’s eyes widened and cursed himself for forgetting that he’s his brother’s lover and he will find ways to find Junsu first. ‘The douche bag didn't tell me he met Yoochun.’ He thought. He felt a pang on his heart at the thought of ‘lover’. He longed for Yunho more.

“Jaejoong hyung, I’ll be going in an hour. I just missed the two of you so I thought of visiting you and I happen to see your name in the bulletin so I asked the school’s registrar about Junsu and you. Oh, and congratulations! You are the topnatcher in the entrance exams.

“Thank you. So, how are you doing?”

The two talked about how their lives went and laughed at different stories that are worth laughing.

“And there’s this time when my friend and I rode the horse and he was scared shitless so he peed on his pants and stomped his feet away, crying and yelling for his mom.” Yoochun said and they laughed until they’re clutching their stomachs. Jaejoong wondered who his friend is because he seemed fun.

“Who is that friend of yours, Yoochun?”

“I’d rather keep him in the blind-item list than make him embarrass. He’s still my best friend, you know? And I won’t let myself get killed if someone knows his secret.”

“But you just told me.”

“Because I trust you and… um, Jaejoong hyung, I’ll be going now. Can I take a picture of you and a picture of us?” Yoochun asked and Jaejoong just nodded. He let Yoochun take shots and when they’re done, they bid goodbyes.

“When will you be back here? You know, it’s nice to be visited sometimes.”

“I don’t know. Maybe I’ll ask my father to ask me to get more things here.” Yoochun joked and they laughed.

“Bye, Yoochun! Until next time! And tell your friend that he sounds cute.” And with that, Yoochun ran down the stairs. Jaejoong watched the retiring man and he even watched him down while getting in to his car at the parking lot nearby. He looked at his wrist watch and found that it’s almost 4:30 in the afternoon. Junsu is already waiting for him so he gathered all his things up and made his way to the gates.

The bell rang and everyone left the class room. Yunho stayed for a while, waiting for the hallway to be emptied before he leaves. When he is sure not much people are around, he stood up and made his way to the gates where his guards are waiting.

Due to the traffic, it took them an additional hour to their 30-minute usual ride home. By the time they reached home, it’s already seven at night. Knowing nothing else to do since he won’t be having his piloting lessons, he walked to his room and left his bag in the bed. He changed into something comfortable and head to the library to read some books.

Yunho is reading A Walk to Remember and is in the verge of crying when someone barge in the room and he knows exactly who he is.

“Yoochun, don’t do that again.”

“Aww, man! Is that how you greet your bestfriend who loves you so much and just did a favor for you?”

“What you did? I don’t know. Just get out.”

“Aww. Just say, ‘hello there my lovely Yoochun! I missed you and please give me a hug’ don’t forget to give me your loveliest smile!” Yoochun wiggled his brows at the frowning Yunho.

“What if I don’t want?”

“Man, you’ll be thanking me your whole life because of my gift.” Yoochun chuckled and crossed his arms on his chest.

“You said that last month and in the end, you just bought me a pink iPhone case.”

“Hey! I found that too cute. But, no. I am in my highest IQ right now and I am sure you’ll be thanking me and hugging me unconsciously as soon as I give you my present!”

“No.”

“Just do it!” Yoochun pouted and gave him his most adorable eyes (for Yoochun himself).

“Fine, don’t do that face. I feel like puking.” Yunho sighed and smiled before he continued. “Greetings, my lovely Yoochun! I missed you and please give me a hug!”

Yoochun hugged him and Yunho did a disgusted face.

“Now, where’s your phone?”

“Aish! I knew it! Another case! I shouldn’t have―”

“Damn it, you, dimwit! Just open the mother fucking Bluetooth and we’re done. Geez! You’re making me irritated.” Yunho was shocked by his best friend’s sudden attitude. He found himself getting his phone and opening the Bluetooth. When he looked at his friend, he is grinning idiotically again like a bipolar man.

“Look at it, babe.”

“Don’t call me babe and I swear if this is porn I will kill y―whoa!” Yunho was surprised to even utter another word and with tears in his eyes, he hugged Yoochun and kissed him on the cheek. It was the pictures of Jaejoong Yoochun took a while ago.

(imagine he has the same dress, hair color and rooftop backgrounds in these pictures)

“Why didn’t you tell me you’re going there?”

“Dad didn’t tell me I was going there either.”

“Yoochun…”

“Consider this as my treat because tomorrow is my father’s birthday and since he won’t be here, I’ll cover up for him.”

“Thank you, Yoochun.” Yoochun left the library and Yunho is still looking at the photos in awe. His Jaejoong has grown again and he looked more beautiful. He wiped his tears and chuckled. ‘I really love that Yoochun sometimes.’
