Unless otherwise stated in a fic, you can assume that the following details are part of an on-going continuity. These additions are not meant to contradict with canon, but rather expand the background that may have been otherwise left vague.
Hot Fuzz
- In most cases, Nicholas is the oldest of five. He has four sisters; Kate, Hannah, Beth, and Deborah. His parents, Katherine and Patrick, raised their children in a strong (though not necessarily devout) Catholic atmosphere, but are ultimately accepting of their children's adult decisions (this is a huge contradiction to most of fanon, who tends to peg him as an only child, and from distant parents).
- Nicholas has a niece -- Samantha (or Sam) -- from Katherine, who is more often than not a single mum living in Wales (yes, my Wales icon comes from this). His other three sisters still live in London.
- Sergeant (sometimes Inspector, depending on time line) Travis Martin is Martin Freeman's character, otherwise known as Met Sergeant. He and Nicholas have been friends since their early teenage years. Depending upon the direction the story is going, Travis is either married to (or recently divorced from) a woman called Beth, or is a bachelor. Typically, in continuities where Travis is married, he and Nicholas have had a falling-out around about the time they went to Academy. In continuities where Travis is still single, he and Nicholas tend to remain quite close, despite the impression you get from the film.
- Inspector Partridge is the name given to Steve Coogan's character. tawg and I thought we were being cute whe that one came up in a role play, and since then, it's just stuck.
- In addition to speaking English and Chinese, Nicholas is also fluent in French (as is his entire family, minus Patrick, who speaks enough to get by). Katherine was born in England, but lived in France through her early 20s, whereupon she returned to England.
- Nicholas more often than not has a small cat called Spot. Spot started out as a Sphinx, but at one point seems to have turned into a Siamese.
- DS Andrew Wainwright is typically married to a woman called Darla, and has a five-year-old son called Michael. It's a very strained relationship, and most likely doomed to fail.
- The Turner sergeants (Bill Bailey) are called Kevin and Kyle. Kevin is the one who's usually seen to be in a foul mood. Kyle is more cheery.
Friends
This show holds the crown for completely fucked continuity. I can't possibly hurt it any worse than it already is, but I'm not sure I'm really helping, either.
- Chandler and Monica had a strained relationship after the Thanksgiving where Monica dropped a knife on Chandler's foot. It wasn't until 1991 that any formal apology was ever made. After that, their relationship steadily improved, but it wasn't until Kip moved out that either of them made an effort to be friendly toward one another. During this time, they quickly realised that the other wasn't as bad as they'd previously thought, which eventually led to an odd sort of platonic closeness between them.
- Kip both broke up with Monica and ran off to get married. Whether he cheated on Monica with Tanya, or cheated on Tanya with Monica is still up in the air, but Kip was the one who called things off with Monica. After the group tried to remain civil with both parties, and failing hard, Kip bailed on Chandler to move in with his fiancée, whom he married soon after, leaving Chandler to inherit the apartment.
- In fact, Kip had actually inherited the apartment from his previous room mate (some guy called Derek). The original lease holder for #19 was someone called Glenn, who moved into the building in 1984. He took a room mate called Doug, and bailed out six months later. Doug then took a room mate called Greg, and in 1986, Doug moved out unexpectedly. Greg took in someone called Thomas, and in 1988, Greg moved out. Thomas then took in Derek before leaving in 1989. Derek took in Kip, and after a fight, Derek left suddenly in 1990. Kip then took in Chandler, and in 1992, broke up with Monica and bailed. Chandler then took in Joey, and moved across the hall in 1999. It's through this convoluted process that the lease was never actually able to be updated, so by the time Joey was on his own, he was paying rent in an amount that had been agreed upon in the mid-80s.
- Joey moved into the building the week before Thanksgiving 1992.
- Chandler and Ross both took their college majors on a dare (this much is canon, actually). While Ross had already been planning on taking the major Chandler had dared him into, Chandler was completely clueless as to what to take. His degree is in Art History.
- Chandler and Ross are in the 1991 graduating class (also canon), but technically finished in 1990 because they both took summer classes every year -- Ross to get into grad school earlier, and Chandler to avoid having to go back to his mother's place during the summer months.
