Arms Hotel - Room 703, Saturday Afternoon

Teddy was damn bouncy at seeing his sister again. That might explain the rapid and uneven knocking on her hotel room door. She was in town and he was going to be able to show her everything and not have it be as awkward as last year.

This was awesome.

"Wonder who that could be," Phyla said aloud. The sheer enthusiasm of Dorrek-- Teddy, she still had to remind herself, occasionally-- could be contagious. She paced through the room, towards the door, and pulled it open. "Hi."

See? Not awkward.

"Hi." He was too excited to let the awkward kick in. And now he was hugging her. Because that would totally help.

"...Hi," she repeated again, hugging him back with a surprising fierceness. "How are you, little brother?" And that, too, wasn't awkward in the slightest. It was like a new record.

"Back at school," He said, like that was the big deal in his life right now. "What about you? Is Heather doing well?"

"Heather's alive, I'm alive," Phyla allowed, pulling back to offer him a smile. "I think that's good."

Teddy snorted at that, shaking his head. "Why do I think she'd be rolling her eyes at that assessment?"

"Because you've met Heather?" she asked, slipping past him so she could close the door behind him. "Make yourself at home."

Teddy laughed, moving forward to check out the room. "Wow, you got a nice one!"

"It's just a room," Phyla told his back, and the door closed with a click. "Nicer than some of the places I have been, I'll have to admit."

"Hey, you think I could come visit you guys this Christmas?" A beat. "Even though you guys don't have Christmas in space."

Phyla rubbed the back of her head a little as she thought. "Things have been stable lately," she said, finally, "I think we can arrange that..."

"Awesome! I've haven't had Christmas with family for--" He shut up quickly at that. And tried again, a little less cheerful. "It'll be fun."

Family. It was still a little weird.

She smiled, anyway. "It'll be," Phyla said, "I'm sure Heather would make sure of it."

Teddy grinned and for once wasn't too sad to say, "She reminds me of my mom. The one, you know..."

"The one...?" She trailed off as she realised who, exactly, Teddy was talking about, and she rubbed the back of her head again. "Oh. Right."

And that would've been that awkward. "So... you wanted to show me something?"

Teddy's eyes went big. "There's a comic book shop in town, and this place where sushi goes around on a conveyor!"
