...

There--

Th-there is--is a cave through the forest. If you get there, your odds of-of-of surviving go up to fifty-fifty clean a-a-a-and you may meet a woman who'll give you some information.

Maybe.

You've been then.

[Herz, you're being very helpful.]

I'll make a note of this. Do you want to come?

[Quickly]

No.

Uh, n-no, I-I-I probably shouldn't. I've died three times already, uhm, I-I'm not too keen on-on-on finding out what comes after...

...

[Does Ashelin know about the affects of multiple deaths on a body? Crap, he can't remember. Fuckit, if she doesn't, she'll tell him and he'll explain. Keep on topic.]

Just, uhm, you--y-you should--should keep your party small, anyways. And, uh, make-m-make sure everyone's a fast runner. The bears are quick a-a-a-and powerful. And happy to eat you.

[The guy's afraid. How many times has he died? Has she ever really paid attention? Sure, he looks a little strange, but with her tattoos, she can't say anything about it. Hello, hypocrisy.

There's probably something there.]

Bears. Right. Anyone under my watch will be prepared for the effort.

You'll need weapons if-if-if you don't just plan to outrun them. Even then...

I dunno how much good it'll do, actually.

...The Major might know more. And Kage. And Jak--Jak's been in there a couple times--twice with me. He even knows where the cave is.

Really. You're saying they can't be taken down without them. That's interesting.

[There's some quiet consideration on her end. She's not changing her mind, just thinking about what needs to be done before they really go.]

Jak's a good asset to have. I'd like to have him come along. He knows how to hold his own.

I'll get the necessary information before anyone sets out.

I-I made, uhm, an entry a while back a-a-a--awhile back about what I found.

If you want to-to talk more about it, though, uhm, well...you know where to-to find me.

I won't, you know, say don't go in there. That'd make me a--a-a hypocrite, and all. You should really try to-to be safe, is-is all. The more you know about the place, the easier it is to avoid dying.

[Granted, the kid has been in there all of three times, but hey, for a non-fighter, that's kinda impressive.]

I'll take a look at it. You can bet I'll have questions. That means I will, at some point before I go, come find you and you can tell me all about what you witnessed.

I don't get into anything without knowing what it is I'm facing. All precautions will be taken before entry, for me, and anyone else who decides they want to brave the frontier.

[Sweet of him to worry, though.]

Oh. Well, uhm, most people aren't that--a-are--aren't that thorough.

Sorry, I just...I-I shouldn't have assumed.

[Great. She made him apologize.]

You didn't know. It's fine. I don't like leaving stones unturned. Anything I do is going to be damn precise. Comes with the territory.

Right. Cool.

I'd, uhm...

...

In--In case I forget to, uh, ask you? I-I-If you go to the cave and meet the woman inside, tell her I say hi. I-I-I mean, would you?

nottheaveragekg December 31 2009, 20:06:24 UTC
...? What, you have a friend inside of there?

[Is he fucking serious? For such a supposedly dangerous place, he has a friend in there. No. Way. She's not even going to comply with his request until he explains.]

Sorry.

[That came right the fuck out of nowhere, huh?]

It--i-it's kinda explained in-in that entry I told you about. The woman is someone I met in the cave. She says--she--she says she's my mother. And Jak's, too, but we don't know what she means by that.

She, uhm, she--s-she dodges questions like a pro, y'know? But who doesn't, here. I-I mean, the crew are great at it, right? Aheh.

Speaking of the crew, they're--they're REALLY protective of her. The woman in the cave, I-I-I mean.

[These parental conversations, they're not really Ashelin's area of expertise and she doesn't want them to be. She finds herself only growing annoyed as Herz explains the situation.]

She's important to the crew then, and obviously to you.

[And she dodges questions, which means Ashelin will have to be cunning and clever, something she is most of the time anyway.]

She'll take work, but if we see her, we'll pass along your message.

[Holy crap, does Herz wish she WASN'T important to him.]

Thanks.

Th-Thanks.

It's nothing, Herz.

Anything else you want. A souvenir?

[She's not serious about that, by the way.]
