I didn't think the new security system, which prevents us from leaving the castle, would take its toll on me; but several weeks in a confined space, however large, have managed to prove me wrong. I can't quite shake off the feeling we're imprisoned here and the dungeons don't feel like a safe haven anymore. There's a certain feeling that's stuck to us since Zabini left, like we're going through the motions. It's interesting, because while Zabini was quite popular, everybody, including us Slytherins, identify Malfoy with the House. I have to wonder, then, what would have happened had it been Malfoy the one leaving.
I've little time to spare these days, of course nobody does. In retrospect, this is a year in which I've always kept busy, and it doesn't seem that'll be changing anytime soon. I'm surprised I've taken so easily to this novelty, for I remember my life prior to September being spent in idle activities such as reading or playing chess. I suppose either I'm compensating for that lack of activity, or my fuse is burning frantically like a match. I've wanted to be Head of the Magical Law department since I finished fifth year, but now I don't know that I could get used to that routine. It seems dull and unexciting compared to the fires, the visitors, the Sodzilla, the flying motorbike and everything else, does it not?
I would like to take the chance to wish happy birthday to two girls that turn eighteen tomorrow, Pansy and Mandy. I hope you both have great days.
