Clever Title

While I’m waiting for the phone to charge…I thought I’d try something new. I’ll try actually blogging about what I’m doing in my life instead of posting quasi-meta-observations every 6 months. This isn’t to say my life is exciting, or even that it borders on the interesting. But…I think that’s what a blog is about. Namely, having a quick place to refer people when they ask, “What are you up to” - instead of having to actually talk to them.

I’m still in Kansas enjoying an extended stay working on various projects. I consider myself very blessed, but am very wary about the future. I’m a lot more responsible than I used to be (partially thanks to Britney) which, as I have found, basically means being wary all the time.

In September, I move to Scotland to begin my Ph.D. in Life Avoidance. (Technically, it’s about something to do with user interfaces and music production, but who are we kidding?)

So, what am I doing in Kansas? Why, working on several (probably ill-advised) music projects:

The first is The Big Album with…that “well-known” musical artist I work with. I say big because he views it as his life’s work; and because I’ve already spent more time on it than my entire undergraduate education. I say “well-known” because I don’t use any real names here. So let’s just say it’s Roger Waters, although we all agree it’s not. But that’s a somewhat fair comparison. No matter where my life or career may take me, it’s unlikely I’ll ever work on a project like this one. That is, of course, assuming it gets done. :)

The second project is my own album -- something I’ve been wanting to do for years. My “band” consists of me (on instruments) and Roger’s nephew…we’ll call him “Biff” because that name would annoy him…on lead vocals. Because we all know that my singing is like my taste in music.

The third project is pretty new. Roger recommended I help guide the career of a new artist whom he feels has “it”. (The subject of this pronoun is a closely guarded industry secret still unbeknownst to me.) She’s really talented and a cool person; I felt honored to even be considered. I saw the other names he had recommended -- they were actual successful people in the music industry, including a famous manager and a well-known music attorney who earns more in an hour than the GDP of Bulgaria. I, however, was available. :)

So…that’s pretty long for a “real” blog entry. In the coming weeks, look for more posts about my work here in Kansas that may border on the interesting.
