Monday, late at night

[Continued from here]

Here was a thing to like about winter: In addition to not giving a crap if it was cold, Angelus got to enjoy short days and long nights.

Which meant that, busy as he'd been that day, he still had time to get in a little hunting.

Now all he needed was a handy victim. He walked the streets of Fandom, keeping his eyes peeled for someone who looked tasty.

Lana was out after doing a little shopping in town. It was chilly, so she had her hands buried in her pockets and her head down against the wind.

Friend of soul-boy's? Oh that'd do just fine. Angelus put on his best non-threatening face, then jogged on over. "Lana? Hey! Imagine running into you here."

Lana looked up quickly and her face brightened. "Angel! I didn't know you were here. Oh, it's so good to see you!"

"I couldn't begin to tell you how glad I am to see you," Angelus said. "I was just thinking to myself how much I could use a friendly face."

"Really?" Lana said with a smile. "Well, I'm glad to see you as well. I really didn't get much of a chance to talk with you over Thanksgiving."

"And I feel horrible about that, really," Angelus said. "I blame Logan for that."

"Well," Lana said, blushing. "Actually, it was more that Chris and I were a little... distracted."

"I didn't want to say anything," Angelus said. "Wouldn't be gentlemanly."

Lana blushed again. "You don't think it's too soon after Jim left?"

"I would never, ever judge you for that," Angelus told her. "I'm too good."

Lana laughed. "Right. No, you usually just threaten their lives."

"Guilty as charged," Angelus said. "Sometimes I can't help myself."

"I kind of like it, actually," Lana admitted. "It's nice to know someone cares."

"Oh I do," Angelus said. He went to take Lana by the arm. "More than I could ever say."

She smiled up at him. "You're a good friend."

"I try," Angelus said. He moved his hand to hold onto Lana's arm just a little bit tighter. "It's part of being a hero, which I so love to do."

She looked up at him curiously. "A little too tight," she said.

"Didn't notice," Angelus replied.

"Well, unless you want me to have lovely bruises on my arm tomorrow, you'll have to hold on a little looser," she said teasingly.

"But bruises can be fun."

She looked up at him uncertainly. "Well, sometimes, I guess, yes, but..."

"Oh no." Angelus held her harder, this time definitely going for pain. "I'm certain."

"Ow," she said, her voice a little high pitched and scared. "Angel? What are you doing?"

"Here's the thing, Lan," Angelus told her. "I'm hungry."

She was still more confused then frightened. "I don't have any pig's blood on me," she said as lightly as she could. "But I'd be glad to go with you to get some."

"I was thinking something closer to home," Angelus said. He pulled her closer.

Her heart was pounding faster, now. She was scared, but this was Angel. She stared up at him uncertainly. "I... I don't understand..."

"Lucky for you nobody likes you for your brains," Angelus said. He then gamefaced to make things clearer.

That was something Lana had never seen before. She stared for a second, then screamed.

"Not yet, kitten," Angelus said. He clamped his other hand over her mouth, then went to pull her right up against him.

She struggled, knowing already that it was hopeless, but determined to put up a fight. She kicked and tried to bite his hand, bringing her free arm around to try and hit him.

"Oo, nice," Angelus said. "Keep that up and maybe I'll save some for later."

Angelus then bent to bite into Lana's neck.

Lana fought against him, trying to scream through his hand, feeling her heart pound as true panic set in.

Sam and Dean had been searching for Angelus for what felt like hours, with no luck, and Sam was starting to get worried that they wouldn't find him at all. When they heard a commotion, they headed straight over, and at the sight of Angelus, Sam straightened up, and signaled Dean. They didn't have any time to waste.

Dean nodded back at Sammy and they moved as one as they surged forward. Dean opened the flask of holy water he was carrying and yelled out "Hey!" and splashed it right in Angelus' face.

Angelus snarled, moving to jerk Lana into the way of the oncoming attack - which did mean he had to let go of her neck in the meanwhile.

Lana struggled to put a hand up to fend off whatever they'd thrown and try to pull away from Angelus, but the loss of blood made her efforts useless.

"Lana!" Sam shouted, trying to grab her arm to pull her away from Angelus before he could hurt her more.

"Another boyfriend?" Angelus made a tsking sound. "You're getting to be quite the slut, Lannie."

He stepped back, putting Lana out of reach but keeping her between him and the Winchesters. "Hey kids, let's play a game I like to call how quickly can you annoy me enough that I go straight for snapping her neck?"

Sam glared at Angelus, and held his ground. "Let Lana go," he said sharply. "Dean and I are bigger and tastier than she is. We'd make a much better catch."

Lana struggled against Angelus' hold, kicking at him. She knew she wasn't strong enough to get free, but hoped she might be able to distract him enough to give Sam or Dean an opening to do something.

"Aw Sammy, look at that," Dean said, his shotgun aimed directly at Angelus. "The big bad vampire is too scared to face us alone. Has to hide behind a girl." He shook his head with mock sadness. "The so called legends never live up to their hype."

"Oh my gosh, you're right!" Angelus said, mock-gasping. "Here, let me put the hostage away and get rid of all my weapons so we can fight this out like men. Except - oh wait, I'm not retarded. Or suicidal. Also not into your type," he added, looking at Sam. "Way to tall. Also what's up with the hair?"

"Like you have any right to comment on my hair," Sam said. "Have you looked in a mirror lately? Oh, wait, that's right, evil vampire." He held his shotgun up as well. "Let Lana go. Now."

Lana back-kicked as hard as she could, hoping to connect with something... anything.

Dean took advantage of Lana's move to splash more holy water towards Angelus' face.

Angelus snarled and gamefaced. He also let Lana go.

Granted he shoved her in Dean's direction.

Lana stumbled and fell as she landed, her feet going completely out from under her.

As soon as Lana was out of the way, Sam aimed and shot one of his wooden rounds at Angelus.

Angelus snarled as the bullet hit him in the shoulder. "Wow are you suicidal. Which normally would be kind of a turn-on except I prefer being the one to get folks there."

Lana managed to crawl far enough to be out of range of anything that might happen and let herself collapse there.

Angelus rolled his eyes when he saw her collapse. "Now you've broken my toy." He grinned. "Guess I'll just have to go get a new one. Night kids. Good job with the white hatting. Dad would be proud."

And with that, he took advantage of vamp speed to vanish into the night.
