Callisto pounded on the door of Johnny's room. She wanted to see if he'd let her play with the puppy who lived with him.

"Me!" Angel folded his arms right back at her. "You have cooties."

"I do not!" Callisto poked at his chest. "Only babies believe in cooties!"

Callisto cocked her head to the side. "What's a vampire?"

"I'm really pale and I drink blood and I can't play in sunlight 'cause it's bad," Angel said.

"You drink blood? Coooo- I mean, ew!"

"Pig's blood," Angel said, nodding. "It comes in a juice box. I can't drink human blood 'cause that's bad."

"My papa hunts boar, he's the bestest hunter in Thrace!" Callisto said, totally not bragging. "Why's it bad?"

"Hunting boar is cool!" Angel said. "I hunt zombies."

"Papa says he's gonna take me hunting with him when I'm bigger," her voice dropped conspiratorially. "But only when Mama can't hear him."

"Zombies? Ick!"

"Hunting would be fun!" Angel said. "Do you use a stake?"

"Nuh uh," Callisto shook her head. "I can use a sling, an' snares but, and Mama says if I can prove I'm really mature I can learn to use a bow next summer."
