It should be known, that at the time when dawn meets dusk, the land of Vatheon had an influx of glowing bugs, which lit the night sky.
Three people, two men and one woman, were around to notice their beauty.
“What are these..?” said the woman, a girl who went by the name of Rapunzel. Dressed in utter and complete pink, she seemed to be the direct opposite of the night which befell them. “They’re like little lanterns!”
“They’re called lightening bugs, pink,” said one man, clad only in the color purple. He was a tall man with long white hair covering one eye. He went by Break. “Though they do have the same effect as lanterns, don’t they ~”
“I always called them fireflies…” And this came from the final man, one who wore only red. Surprisingly and coincidentally enough, he went by Red. “But I guess that doesn’t really matter.”
With a handful of these lightening bugs, Rapunzel threw them into the air, watching as they swarmed around her, a flurry of tiny lights lighting up the night as if it were truly day. She marveled over their glow for a moment, before turning and grinning at her two companions.
“Does this mean I’m a firefly too? Or am I a lightening bug?”
With a faint smile, Red turned to the bugs flying around them. Break could answer this one, he decided, as his hand reached out to hold a few of the floating lights, smiling as their small legs tickled his hand.
“Whatever do you mean, pink?” Break said, whilst grinning, a few bugs landing on him. He paid them no mind. “Do you glow, perhaps? Or do you fly? Maybe a mixture of both?”
“ Oh - I glow!” And, as one would suspect, Red and Break turned their attention toward her, staring with curious faces. Was this a metaphor? Or - was she simply being silly? Or maybe, she actually did glow.
…
Yeah, right.
Rapunzel, seeing their confusing only laughed slightly, taking a deep inhale, and bringing her hair to her front side. With the release of her breath, she began to sing:
“Flower gleam and glow
Let your power shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine
Heal what has been hurt
Change the fate’s design
Save what has been lost
Bring back what once was mine
What once was mine. “
And as she sings her odd song about flowers and clocks, her hair, from the roots downward, begin to light up, like the sun. Or maybe, it’s like the flying bugs that now surrounded her hair. Their glows are equal, Rapunzel and the bugs, like they share some odd bond. Like they’re the same.
Red moved to examine her hair, quietly asking for permission, before reaching out to hold it in his hands, the light illuminating on his skin. Before long, the light faded out, and all that was left was the memory of what just took place.
Break didn’t bother inspecting her hair. He was convinced that whatever he saw was real, and seeing that he just saw her hair glow, that meant that she well, shines, just like she had said.
He begins to laugh.
“I suppose that does make you a lightening bug, doesn’t it?”
Red grinned too.
“A firefly if I’ve ever seen one.”
And, finally, the pink in their little rainbow grins as well, taking one hand of Red’s and one of Break’s, and moving in a way that seemed to be a fluid dance. It didn’t matter whether they caught on or not; they were just three friends, three colors in a rainbow, dancing to the beat of small wings flapping against the non-existent wind in their little bubble under the sea.
“I think we’re all fireflies and lightening bugs. Right?”
Together, the three of them danced.
