Life After Valiant:Lucy was not successful in 'killing' the Master on the Valiant and as punishment for his crimes, he's forced to travel with the Doctor.
Brokenverse and Brokenverse Reboot:
The Master left the nuclear bolt running. It's gone into overload. The excess radiation gets vented inside there. Vinvocci glass. Contains it. All 500,000 rads, about to flood that thing. It's gone critical. Touch one control, and it floods. Now you tell me to just leave you? OK, right, then, I will. Because you just had to go in there, didn't you? You had to go and get stuck, oh yes! Because that's who you are, Wilfred! You were always this. Waiting for me all this time! You're an old man! You've had your time! Look at you. not remotely important. but me... I could do so much more! So much more! But this is what I get, my reward. And it's not fair! Oh... lived too long. But I do think that will live longer. Goodbye, Wilfred.
After the Master pumped all of his remaining energy into Rassilon to send Gallifrey back to the timelock, the Doctor saved him by merging their minds and regenerations together. This process shattered them both and caused each to retain a portion of the other inside of themselves. The part of the Master that fused into the Doctor decided it was better to survive by ignoring his destiny and keeping his Song alive. Sorry Wilfred, but he really is so much more important than you are.
End of Time:The Doctor senses that the Master has returned and with him, the Time Lords.
