We left the heat behind in Streaky Bay. The weather there was a record for November. 42.9 degrees! Heading further down the Eyre Peninsular we arrived in Coffin Bay. It is so much cooler here, we even slept under the doona last night.
Pictures of our journey from Streaky Bay to Coffin Bay:
The shops in these small towns don't stay open on Sunday (actually lots of them aren't even opened on Saturday). We didn't have any bread, so I bought the last loaf from the servo when we filled up. It cost me nearly $5 and didn't feel terribly fresh, but beggars can't be choosers. THEN, we were driving along a very deserted road, when we see a sign that says "Oven fired bread". So we stopped. It was a stall at the front of someones property, with some glass doored shelves, and an honesty box....and the bestest ever bread. Cost = $3.50per loaf! We also bought some amazing breadrolls also $3.50 per 1/2 dozen. Obviously, the stale old servo bread was soon forgotten!!
We took a detour around the cliff tops and discovered these sculptures that were put there in 2006.
These were titled "I feel like I'm 15 again" and were my favourites!:
Untitled:
Titled "Cobb & Co"
"A sculpture about painting":
Unfortunately this photo doesn't do justice to the art. It was a butterfly made out of Abalone shells just placed on the ground. When you got up close it was very obvious.
"The Salmon Pole"
Simply titled "Salmon" (note the fish hook!)
"Creatures of the sea"
Untitled, but the letters at the bottom of the sculpture are copies of old letters written from an aboriginal person to a white person back in the 1800's.
And the very cleverly named "Headland"
Though I am sure you will all agree this must have been the winning sculpture:
(Ooomah, graffiti!!)
And some more safety signs - as
supermatt41 pointed out, these signs have to be understandable to anyone, in any language! Enjoy Matt :)
We passed this well restored old house on the way:
Have a good week everyone!
