010 ~*~ The most anticlimactic return

Nov 07, 2011 11:48

[ Action : 340 Brady Lane : Sunday mid-day ]
[ It might be difficult for outsiders to tell that something was off about Meiling, at first. As a drone she was a touch more pleasant and carefree, a bit more diligent with her work, and much more subservient to her "husband". At school she was pleasant and diligent and a good, hard worker ( Read more... )

[Flandre peeked around a wall into the hallway that Meiling was working in, as she had for...whenever she remembered, which wasn't always. It wasn't always Meiling there either, so someone else had taken her home since Meiling stopped being Meiling.

Then her wings had come back. Her real wings, which definitely weren't supposed to be there--but were nevertheless quite welcome. They were soft.

Maybe Meiling had come back, too? That would be nice.]

Meiling?

[Maybe she'd answer this time.]

[ Her mopping stops. ] Sorry, I'll get out of the way--

[ Wait. Waitwaitwait! ]

[ The mop handle doesn't even hit the floor before Meiling has spun around, bolted the corner, and picked Flandre up. ] Flandre!

[Flandre was about to deflate at that answer. The usual one, by now.

But--but! Meiling did something different this time! She moved almost too fast for Flandre to see and picked herr up and called her name.

The little vampire doesn't bother stopping a delighted squeak.]

Meiling is back! Meiling is back!

[...though her new wings do flutter a bit sluggishly on the way up, to retain her balance.]

I am, I am! [ She laughs and twirls the little vampire around as she's held up and then... stops suddenly. ] --your wings!

My wings! [She repeated. Flandre had folded them up to her back when she was spun around, but now she gave them a little flutter. They look quite like her sister's, though a bit lighter and smaller, with some red around the edges.]

They're back! Can we go flying, Meiling?

[She just sounds so excited]

[ Mindful of those wings, she stops spinning and just pulls Flandre close for a hug. ] I'm happy to see you again, and happy that you have them back! [ Big smile. ] And of course we can go flying. What kind of question is that?

[Flandre returns that hug as best she can, mumbling happy things as she did so. Her new wings even drape over Meiling's arms somewhat, with the thumb claws hooking over her elbows. They're quite soft.]

Right now, right now?

[ A little laugh. ] Well, I technically have work to do... [ She glances this way and that. ] --but the halls look pretty clean. [ So she'll just start walking down toward the door at the end of the hall. ]

[As soon as Flandre sees where they're going she squeaks again. Her wings flutter about in excitement too; it's becoming easier to move them now. She just needed practice!.]

[ Meiling is rather glad for those wings. She still had to chastise Flandre for her earlier behavior with crawling out onto that ledge while she was a dragon, but would hopefully not have to do that again.

Outside, she takes in a deep breath of air and looks around. ] Mm, looks pretty clear...

What do you say to flying home from here?

[Wingflail. WINGFLAIL. She's kicking up quite the little breeze by now.]

Can we go farther, Meiling?

[Following the gate guard's example, Flandre also took a big breath. It smelled like leaves and cold outside, though it didn't feel very chilly at all.]

[ Big smile. She just can't let Flandre down, today. Who knows exactly how long she's been waiting to show those wings off? ] As far as you want.

Now hold on tight for a bit, okay? [ Once she gets confirmation, Meiling springs up onto an outside table, then the low edge of a roof, and then lands on the highest point of the campus. ] Whew! Okay, we should be good to start from here.

I will! [Flandre loops her arms around Meiling's neck, but still keeps craning her head this way and that to look around--especially when Meiling started jumping. Each jump is punctuated with a delighted squeal from the little vampire until they're at the top. Then she flares her wings again, in more excitement.]

Is this high enough, Meiling?

I think so. [ And enough build-up, too. She moves to slowly set the little one down, but doesn't let go of her waist just yet. ] Why don't you start moving and I'll stay real close to make sure everything works out fine. It's been a while, so it might feel weird at first, okay?

[Flandre is trembling a bit when Meiling puts her down on the roof, but not from fear. Her wings started to unfurl even before she touched down; the shivers are most obvious there.

She strains to peer over the edge and begins to beat her wings, just like before. Though this time she actually means to do something other than gesture with them. The vampire even lifts up off her heels slightly, which makes Flandre redouble her efforts.

...but all that flapping around before had worn some of her energy away, and she wasn't exactly good at that endurance thing. She starts to tire, with some of that excitement giving way to fatigue.]

[ She watches her for a moment, curious as to why it isn't working. Meiling doesn't use wings, and she hasn't seen these all that often, so it doesn't click with her that wings != flight.

But she does know what Flandre wearing herself out looks like, so she decides that a little boost can't hurt. She tightens her grip on the vampire's waist a bit and starts to lift her up off of the roof. ] Here, let me give you a little boost. Maybe you just need a little more air!
