Well, let's get the icky stuff out of the way first. At different places in the house there were these "Green Way Pest control" paper triangle type things and I just thought they were roach bait or something like that (hey it's the tropics, these things happen). Intil one of them started moving around and making noise. OMG, they are GLUE TRAPS and there was a mouse stuck in one just suffering. My friend tried to get it unstuck, but he quickly realized that was just not possible. I couldn't just leave the poor thing trapped like that, they can live on for days in those traps until they starve to death. So my friend moved the trap outside onto a concrete pad and I found a brick and smashed the poor thing out of it's miserary. This happened not once but TWICE last night!!!! OMG, my karma was definitey taking a beating last night (pun not intended, but hey, I'm leaving it there) There are still some glue traps around the place, but they're not near the kitchen, so hopefully no more will get caught.
Can I just say, for the record, glue traps are EVIL and inhumane!!! Trust me, anyone who knows me knows I am NO fan of mice, and I hunt them down in my house merilessly, HOWEVER, I use snap traps that kill them instantly (for the most part, unless something goes awry). Glue traps = torture, and even vermin do not deserve that!
Okay, icky stuff over but, just ewww.....
SO, this morning I woke up to a bit of a tropical storm, rain pounding, wind whipping, so I decided just to hang out in bed and sleep in until a whopping 8:30 AM! Storm ended quite quickly, they do that here, blow in fierce and blow out within 15-20 minutes. Made another run to the grocery store in the AM for more wine and diet coke this time. Really, TOMORROW, I'm going to see if we can make it through a day without a run to London Way!
By the time I was back the rain had blown out, and the clouds were starting to break up. Unfortunately, there were MASSIVE crowds on the beach right in front of this place:
OH wait, those were bushes, not people....
Though at one point today there were about 6 kite boarders all zipping back and forth in front of the house. I have NO IDEA how so many were out there and how they managed to keep their lines from tangling. If you've never seen kite boarding it's pretty darned cool. Pretty much it's folks on something akin to a wake board holding onto a giant parachute being hauled across the water (and sometimes into the air) at break neck speeds! They have a harness that the lines are connected to and then 2 lines to either side of the parachute (kite) thing to steer it. WOW, talk about your MASSIVE core body work out. And most of these guys were at it for 6+ hours. I'm sore just watching them!!!!!
Grilling some steaks for dinner tonight, with mushrooms, grilled roasted potatos, and broccoli. YUM! Tomorrow there is a big market in Mahebourg, the town closest to here. Looking forward to going in and exploring that, though the weather might be a bit rainey, but I won't melt! It's suppose to sell a lot of textiles and also have a big produce section, so it should be VERY cool. There's also a biscuit company that does tours. They make all their biscuits completely by hand the way they've done for the past 100 years or some such thing. Might check that out as well since I'm down that way! But again, you know me and plans.... make 'em, don't always keep 'em (and sometimes even the making of them is dicey!)
Okay, off to do some dinner prep! Have a good day/evening everyone!
