As a preface, I want to say that I started watching "Glee" this weekend, and got through all four eps on Hulu. What a great show! At the end of the pilot, for those who haven't seen it, they do an amazing rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," which planted the subject line of this post in my head.
I couldn't tell you how many times I've done it. How many times I've put everything on the line, risked it all. I think the lessons I carry around with me from childhood taught me a lot about how security is really an illusion, a little number that's played out with smoke and mirrors. A trick of the light. And that's made it easier, I think, for me to put keep rolling when the dice have cooled for me.
The costs have been high. I can't deny it. And there were certainly times when I passed my turn to roll when I had more to lose. But the beauty of life is that as long as we are here, we're always in the game, and there's always another chance to win.
