According to my tags, it has been just over 2 years since I went to a gig - which would be just before I opened the store, so it sounds about right. It has been 3 years since I went to Milkboy.
Tonight, I went back to
Milkboy Coffee because
Driftless Pony Club were playing. I only know the band because the lead singer is
Wheezy Waiter. But I have to give them props for having the only rock
video that features Catan and ninjas. The band was okay, but I don't think they have the variety I require to become a favorite.
The first act was Mike Lombardo. At one point, he mentioned his songwriter teacher had taken points off for a pun. That's when it hit me that he was technically competent, but didn't excite me at all.
The second act was
Lucas Carpenter I actually like the guy - to a point. I ended up buying his CD because of the song lyrics to Tumbleweed. He used a lot of looping, and he did it well. He backed himself up with penny whistle, drum, talk box and harmonizing vocals while he played his guitar. I'm looking forward to listening to the CD to hear the studio versions which I know will be different.
