Personality:
Of the six ponies followed in Ponyville, Rarity is the vision of grace and poise. She prides herself in her high fashion and being so well mannered. She prides herself as a high class pony and is a perfectionist. Rarity will never settle for the mediocre, but sets her standards much higher than that. She hopes to become a respected fashion designer and to become one of the upper class. She goes so far as to hope to capture the heart of Prince Blueblood-too bad he wound up being nothing more than a self serving jerk who could not respect her. She does have a bit of a vanity complex: if someone were to tanish her looks she may have to hide herself until she can properly fix it, and she's been known for spending long hours in spas and pampering herself.
Sometimes Rarity gets caught up in her own little world and her dreams of fame and popularity. If she's given something that can capture the attention of others, she gets a little bit carried away and want to take all the attention from everyone around her. She's also gotten caught up in her wishes for fame that she's accidentally forced others to vicariously live out her dream when she's been denied it. Rarity's gotten better about these things, and tries her best not to be so over dramatic.
Just because Rarity pays such intricate attention to detail and wishes for the spot light it doesn't mean that she is a bad person. Rarity is one of the most generous ponies in Ponyville. While she may not want to dirty herself, she's gone on quite a few adventures with her friends, even when the adventure takes her to rugged terrain. She's also been willing to sacrifice part of her own beauty for the benefit of others. Rarity does her best to help her friends by being there for them and has a good sense of observation-when one of her friends (Rainbow Dash) was nervous about a competition coming up, Rarity saw the nerves before some of her other friends and insisted that they go to cheer on Rainbow.
Rarity also does not just pay attention to outer beauty, but has a sharp eye for inner beauty as well. At one point, she designed outfits for all of her friends and each dress was custom made for her friend's interests. When the other ponies weren't as impressed, Rarity went out of her way to make sure that each costume was to her friends' standards, even if they failed to meet her own. All in all, Rarity may have an eye for beauty and high class, her friends come before any of that, and she always wants to see them do and look their best and has their happiness in mind.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Rarity has an acute attention to detail. If she's dedicated her attention to a subject, she will not leave it alone until it is perfect
-Sometimes this stresses out Rarity, because she will take on too much in too little time.
-This can also prevent her from seeing the big picture.
+Rarity is a generous person: for the sake of someone else's beauty, Rarity is unafraid to sacrifice something of her own though she may regret it later
+With a cool head, Rarity can take control of a bad situation. For example: she once was kidnapped by a group of jewel thieving dogs that intended to use Rarity to find, dig up, and carry around their jewels. Within a few hours, Rarity had turned the tables where she was finding the jewels, but the dogs were digging them up and carrying around the carts for her.
-Rarity's perfection can sometimes get the worst of her: she can be judgmental of others-including her friends-and hold people to such high standards and be so nitpicky that she can irritate others.

Oh, this just won't do.
[Rarity is holding up two ribbons, one is blue and one is pink] Pink ribbons would be much too stark against Azure, but blue ribbons would just not stand out! Oh, what's a pony supposed to do? Ah! I mean a lady...What's a lady supposed to do? Why can't this store sell other colors?
[Rarity holds the ribbons in her hand] Well, I could always just get creative! Isn't that right, Azure? A true designer can make something perfect out of anything.

Third Person Sample: A lady never left the house without looking her best. Unfortunately for Rarity, the fashionable winter boots she bought were not wise for the ice paths. Two steps on the slick ice and she had fallen right on her bottom. In the back of her mind, Rarity could hear Applejack criticizing her for her clothing choice, or Pinkie Pie skating right past her and all along the icy portions of the cave. She sighed heavily as she got back on her feet. This was still possible. Maybe not the best shoes for the trip, but that didn't stop Rarity before. She kept walking, making slow and careful steps. Most people here didn't use skates; how did they get across?
With another few steps, Rarity slipped and crashed back on the ice. She grit her teeth. There had to be an easier way to do this. She sighed: Rarity had to continue moving along, even if she needed to crawl across this ice. She got on her knees and sighed: these pants were going to be ruined, and they were so nice, too! Then there was this jacket: oh this was a fashion disaster! She would have to remake it all! She'd need to find some fabric, and some way to sew this all together...
“Ow!” When her palms hit the cold ice, Rarity's mind had come out of her little daze. No, now was not the time to be considering fashion, not when she had to get out of this cave. The ice path was cold, and if she stayed here any longer she could get sick or worse!
With a deep breath, Rarity looked at the icy path in front of her. She had to coach herself before she did this:
“Now Rarity,” she said to herself, “You can do this, it's just some ice. And besides, there's no other way to get to the next town. We can cross this, it won't be a problem. Come on...”
And so, Rarity began to crawl across the icy path. She'd get out of this cave if this was the last thing she'd do.
