Freya's first stop, after leaving Charlie's room at the inn, was to find a local phone directory and look up John Smith. It didn't take too long to figure out which Smith was which, and she got the address for his office ( Read more... )

John's been updating his journal, writing about people most recently met, observations, deductions. Among other things, he'd been able to notice that there was some serious non-specific subtext going on between Dr. Suresh, Charlie, and one of the FEMA agents who'd just shown up -- which was odd, since it seemed like she'd supposedly never met them before. Also, the gas station incident might've been involved somewhere. Further investigation necessary.

The knock on the door is met with a bit of a surprise. Yes, he still had his shingle out, same as always, but it's not like there's been much call for hiring a private dick among the much smaller population. He locks the journal in a drawer of his desk, then moves to the door, soft-soled shoes making for quiet steps as he draws one of his guns. Looking through the peephole spikes his surprise, not expecting that one of the new Feds would be looking for him, at least not so soon.

"That's right," Freya confirms, her gaze maybe a little sharper, more focused, than it was when they first met near the general store. Her own gun is holstered and out of sight, but she's not going anywhere without it...not with the current atmosphere.

"I'd like to speak with you, if that's okay." Her expression is not especially guarded (Freya's always been easy to read) and she's fairly obviously sizing him up, now that she has the opportunity to do so without distractions.

What records might those be, Mr Smith? How old? This...is going to be interesting. She can tell.

Seeing someone so obviously look him over always amuses him a little, and it's obvious in the grin he flashes as he turns from the door, which he's left open.

"Sure. Come on in."

He sits back down behind his desk, gesturing at the chairs opposite.

"Please, have a seat. What's on your mind?"

Freya takes a seat across from him, clasping her hands between her knees and leaning forward a little, regarding him with cautious curiosity. "You seem like the guy to come to if I want to know what the town's situation is, Mr Smith. Are you from around here?"

And the leading questions begin! Think hard, Mr Smith; Freya's listening.
