(no subject)

So I got a letter from George R. Nethercutt, Jr. of tthe House of Representatives, representing Washington.

His response to my fax regarding the Federal Marriage Amendment was this: "I believe it is states that should enact legislation tthat closely reflects thte moraal tenor of their communities, pushing federal guidelines to the sidelines, when possible. I will continue to keep your thoughts in mind as legislation on this issue is considered by Congress."
However, on the plus side, he said "The constitution is a documentt with which Congress is entrusted to preserve -- not remake."

I still think he's avoiding taking any serious stance on this so he can try to please everyone.
I may write him back and voice my opinions about how the moral tenor of communities doesn't matter in a "united" country where civil rights are supposed to be one of the most important things on our gov.'s agenda.
