Educate me on bacteria

We keep two sponges by our sink, a dish sponge and a surface sponge, the latter being used to clean countertops, the stove top, scrubbing down the sink, etc. It may have been used once or twice on the floor, and has used with 409 on more than one occasion.

Last night, my roommate's girlfriend unknowingly used the surface sponge to wash our dishes. I realized this after using one of the washed bowls to eat from.

My rudimentary understanding of bacterial infection is that you can become feverish or weak while your immune system calls all hands on deck to fight it off. In my experience it can range from faint weakness/light-headedness to full-on fever. Is my understanding correct? If not, what am I missing? What can I expect while my body deals with this?

I'm already a little light-headed and woozy on my feet and am about to go have a lie down to conserve my strength. Worst case scenario, what can I expect? Will I recover by Tuesday afternoon?
