To The Fourth Decade, Driver! And No Toilet Breaks!

At some point while I was sitting on a sofa in the Broughton area of Edinburgh watching a 4-player game of RISK 2 unfold, I gained a 3 at the start of my age, replacing the 2 which has become worn out after exactly 10 years use.

Oh, all right... I'm 30. There, said it, happy now, good.

Before I go any further, I'd just like to thank everybody for who contributed to the ritual slanging, and the massive pile of stuff I have acquired over the past week - your efforts will keep me amused and off your radar for months to come!! ;)

The pile includes, but is not restricted to, the following (Feel free to remind me anything I missed):
  • A brand-spanking-new Playstation 2, with Gran Turismo 4, Smackdown vs Raw, and an extra joypad! Thanks to the Edinburgh team for that!
  • A Bluetooth headset for my phone, courtesy of Mr wullstat!
  • Several DVDs from various people... West Wing Season 5 from my folks, Restless Natives from petauk, and Royal Rumble 91/92 and Hellboy from thewick. Thanks all!
  • Two Richard Cheese albums and the fantastic Making Of Sin City book from vampkidbaby - very cool!
  • And finally, my first ever official league baseball, thanks to my bro once again!

Saturday was quite eventful, in that there was a lot of events going on. I arrived at render's place around noon, despite all the Edinburgh traffic chaos (deliberate or otherwise), and got my first chance to play Lego Star Wars, which is brilliant fun by the way. Then it was off to the Vue Omni to see The Assassination Of Richard Nixon, which although based on a true story is in fact mostly fictional (otherwise how could he guest star in Futurama so many times?). Seriously, the film was very good, even better for having the Sean Penn drag factor in it. Interestingly, it was the first time I'd been to one of their Gold Service cinemas - I kinda regret not making better use of it, like ordering food and drink for the performance, and the seats did feel like those arcade driving simulator ones, but I applaud the fact that such a service exists.

Since the film had been a downer (which it was supposed to be, of course), it was time for some hilarity. And we felt that there would be no better place to find that in Edinburgh than at the LAN party. And so it proved! Sooo many computers in close proximity - that flat must have shown up on satellite infrared scans. Basically, my participation was limited to advising Evil and Craig getting started in Planetside, drinking beer, eating fajitas, and watching the other games going on. Which all suited me fine. w00t!

Got up on Sunday and headed to the pub for the usual Old Firm nonsense. Now, once that was over the plan was to head straight home, but in the end I stayed for late lunch and the Man U - Newcastle game. All in all, a very relaxed weekend, and greatly appreciated it was too.

And the great thing is, I get to do it all over again next weekend!

birthday, cinema, weekend, shiny discs
