Aravis woke from the most real dream she'd experienced in some time. She was with her mother and Rishti, under the warmth of the Calmorene sun. They were happy, smiling at her, delighting in her presence. There was no resentment, as so often in her dreams, nor was her father lurking angrily at the edges of the landscape. They rode horses, Aravis racing her brother without a single harsh word of scolding from her mother about a lady's behavior.
She was happy. She was happy, with her family. It had been so long since she'd remembered that this used to be normal. It was as though she was five again, playing and running with her brother under her mother's watchful gaze, but in a young woman's body. As her mother brushed her hair back from her face, straightening the band she wore in her hair, Aravis felt an overwhelming warmth that eclipsed even the desert's heat.
When she woke from the dream, she felt she had to go to Fandom, as soon as she was able. She rose from her bed, unsure who to talk to, or if she even wanted to. She couldn't tell Cor yet -- she wasn't sure he'd understand, and he had his own problems with his family. She needn't bother him with visions of her own. The pull to Fandom was strong, though, and inescapable, and she found herself at her small writing desk, toying with the device Ben had made, once again.
[open for phone calls, or you can say she called you! :D]
