It was Aravis' last chance to wear a really lovely dress from these times and this world. (At least until homecoming.) She had a strong suspicion that the gown she'd selected, lovely though it was, would not do well in Archenland -- though she had to smile at the idea of Cor seeing her in it, someday

"Light, I don't stop by for a while and all sorts of things change," Mat drawled from the door.

Aravis dropped her hair, startled. "Haven't seen you in a bit!"

Yep, she'd forgotten what she'd done to her assets.

Mat would stop staring at them aaaaaaaany second now. Truly.

"Did you pine? I've heard that I have that effect."

He had not.

"I nearly wasted away to nothing," Aravis said, pressing the back of her wrist to her forehead. "Such was my misery without you."

Mat burst out laughing. "Is there anything I can do to assuage such woe?"

"You can come in," she said genially, smiling at him.

"My lady is too kind," Mat said, making a very pretty leg before walking in.

"You caught me on a good day," she teased. "How ever have you been, my dear?"

"Keeping out of trouble," Mat replied with an easy smile. "I helped rescue Lady Winchester a few weekends back. She was quite charmed by me."

"The principal, or the smallest one?" Aravis asked with a smile.

"The principal," Mat said, "though I am confident the youngest Winchester would also find me delightful."

"Small children are easy to delight," she pointed out. "They're like puppies."

Aravis. Really.

"Is that why Ata likes you?" he teased. "He has low expectations?"

[notqueenyet]

"No, it's why he likes everyone," she said as Ata scampered over to sniff Mat. "He likes me because I feed him."

"I like people who feed me, too," Mat said agreeably, patting Ata's head, "which means I must swear eternal vengeance upon Kate who refused to share her donuts."

"Evil minx," Aravis tsked. "You should get chocolate and refuse to give her any."
