Last time on Awesome Saga 2 - ReAwesome Again Vers. B... Cadenza, we learned that Lucas and Guts were searching for something... or are they on the run?  Someone has poisoned Dracula, but who?  And why?!  These answers or possibly something else entirely in this week's chapter!

"I brought that boy back from the dead three years ago,"  Dr. Tenma confessed, looking less like a doctor and more like a sexy man with problems with every word.  "I brought him back... and I have to slay him again."

"Because he's a serial killer, right?"  Dr. Nambu toyed with his mustache.  "Yes, I understand completely.  Team, your new assignment is to track down this boy 'Lucas' and kill him.  Miss Tsukamoto, I'll be relying heavily on your abilities."

"Aye aye sah!"  The smaller Tenma saluted the doctor and pulled a spoon from her pocket.  She held it up before her face, closed her eyes, and began to hum in meditation.

"Excuse me for interrupting, Doctor," said Kino's motorrad, Hermes, "but isn't our assignment to track down the one who poisoned Dracula?"

"There will be time for that later," he replied curtly.  "Not only that, but this boy could be a vital clue in our investigation.  Bring him to justice and see what comes of it."

Bebebeep~ Bebebeep~

Nambu pressed two finges against his right ear.  "Nambu speaking."

"Dr. Nambu... kept you waiting, huh?"

The voice belonged to Super Solid Snake.

"Snake!  I had gotten worried when you didn't answer any of my calls during the Professor Haar chapters.  Then I forgot all about you."

"Yeah... sorry about that."  He allowed for a brief reflective silence and continued.  "But Doctor, I've encountered a... bit of a snag."

Everyone was looking intently at Nambu with the exception of Tenma, who was still humming at her spoon.  Nambu turned away.  "What is it, Snake?"

"I can't... I can't open this jar of tuna..."

"Listen, Snake," said Nambu,  "That is probably a can of tuna, meaning you can't just twist it open.  See if you can find a can opener somewhere in the area."

Snake grumbled.  "A can opener, huh...  I'm getting too old for this."

"Good luck, Snake."

The transmission was cut.

"AHA!"  Tenma's pigtails twirled, seeming to keep her head level as she reeled back in excitement.  Her spoon had bent to the east.  "He went that way!"

"Excellent work, Tsukamoto!" Nambu commended.  "Agents are go!!"

The three of them saluted and went off on their mission.  Kino took off in the lead as she cut a trail on Hermes.  Tenma rode shotgun in Tenma's car, and they peeled off after her.

Lucas pulled the Gutsmobile to a slow stop as they were accosted by a boy in orange.  He was waving his hands around wildly.

"Hey!  You look like you're in a hurry, but would you mind buying some headbands to help support my school?"

Lucas stared the grinning boy in the eyes.

Naruto's head exploded.

Lucas bent down to pick up the box of free headbands and took off again.

"They're coming after us, you know," the Gutsmobile groaned.  "You think they'll let something like a headless ninja just slide by?"

"I'm not worried about them finding me," Lucas replied coldly, "because I have you here with me."  He equipped one of the headbands.  He had hoped it would make him feel like a super awesome ninja, but somehow he just felt like a poser and a fag.

BAM!

A sharp pain throbbed in his forehead.  He had hit his head when the Gutsmobile ran into something in the road, and now both he and Guts were laying on their side in the dirt.  Something long and golden was rising from the earth.  Is this another needle?

The owner of the long golden thing revealed himself from the shadows and pulled it without effort.  The golden thing was a sword, and a large one.  He stood over them, even more metal on his body than Guts.  "Prepare yourselves," he said.

"Some cocky asshole you are," coughed Guts as he pulled himself to his feet.  He thrust out his left, human arm and shouted: "ADEAT!"  An even greater sword appeared within his grasp.

"Heh..."  The figure with the golden sword twirled it once in his hand.  "Adeat!"  The weapon grew to twice its previous length, now at nearly nine feet. He still held it with one hand, though his other hand didn't seem to be doing anything in particular.

"Tch."  Guts tightened his grip on the weapon with two hands.  "ADEAT!!"

His greatsword was now five interlocked chainsaws and grenade launcher.

The figure smiled again.  "Adeat."

The weapon vanished.

Invisible?!

Then he struck without taking a step forward.  Guts bore down against the invisible threat with his chainsaw grenade launcher.  The teeth made a horrible gnashing sound as the warrior with the transparent weapon crushed down on him relentlessly.  Sparks flew wildly in every direction but southwest.  The reason for this is unknown.

Lucas brushed himself off, never taking his eyes off of the man fighting Guts.  He felt he had seen him somewhere before... no, someone who looked like him.  But this was not the same man.  He couldn't read the man's mind no matter how hard he tried.

"Who the hell are you?"  Guts demanded, finally parrying the weapon to the ground.  He revved his chainsaws menacingly.

"I am but a phantom that appeared with the great light that rose from Death Mountain two years ago," he replied.  His voice was calm, but hollow.  "But the other me no longer exists in this world.  Perhaps, then, I have become the true one?"

A golden light burst from the length of the Ike Phantom's weapon, knocking Lucas back to the ground.  Guts blocked the attack just by thinking about it.  "That doesn't make any damned sense!  If you're a phantom, why are you so strong?"

Ike laughed coldly.  "Why are you?"

Another strike.  Guts ran down the length of the attack, holding the attack at bay with his weapon and charging forward.  He would have to get a little closer if he hoped to end this.

Grnnnnnnnnnn!

The weapon clicked violently at the hilt of the invisible sword.  Ike smiled weakly.  "You are as strong as they say..."

"Stop!!" Lucas cried out.  "Both of you, stop fighting!"

They did.

"You knew him, didn't you?  Even if you are just a copy, you must have his memories right?  The most important ones?!"

"What are you talking about?" said Ike.  Guts looked equally puzzled.

"Sarin... the great dragon on whom this planet depends," Lucas continued.  "I am the one who awakened him.  It is because of me that..."

"...That Soren was able to avenge my death..."  Ike's memories came flooding back into his mind.  "Yes, it all makes sense now... Soren was the great dragon... Soren was Sarin...!"

Guts waved his weapon around and pouted.  He really wanted to kill someone with it.

"I'm off to find him," Lucas said.  "If you want to see him again you'll let us live and come with us."

The one who called himself Ike's phantom did not hesitate.  "I will join you."

PYON~! A bullet whizzed by Lucas' ear.  Kino had barely appeared on the horizon, riding her motorrad at full speed.  That sort of accuracy was quite deadly any way you looked at it.

"I'll protect you for now," Ike said to them, raising his invisible weapon maybe.  "I'll follow your trail when I'm done here, now move it!"

Guts begrudgingly turned into a dune buggy and hauled Lucas off to safety.

Kino fired another shot, this time at the ground.  She blew Ike off his feet, but he managed to tech his landing and continued to wait now, a little more cautious of the girl's abilities.  "I won't let you down this time, Soren.  Wait for me."
