New Year once again

Jan 07, 2009 08:38

This is my New Year’s post, even though it about a week late.  I had several options for things to do on New Year’s Eve, and, of course, I almost ended up doing nothing.  I requested both the 31st and the 1st off many weeks in advance, because the previous year I had to work early on the 1st.  Also, for weeks in advance, several of my friends were planning something grand, and it sound anticipating.  However, on New Year’s Eve, everything started falling apart.  First, our perennial designated driver canceled at the last second- citing that he had too many things to do around the house.  Our final plans were to attend a party of John’s coworkers; this party was about 30 minutes away, and because of that, nobody wanted to drive.  We all met at Luke’s house prior to going there.  The whole night’s plans would’ve fallen though unless I somehow volunteered to drive, and I did.  It made no sense how there were eight people with six vehicles, and nobody else could drive; although someone else had to drive to accommodate the extra people.  Everyone had the intentions of getting wasted, and the fact that I had to drive my own car to the party somewhat hampered my desire to drink a lot.  Of course, I could’ve left my car at the party overnight, but I never like leaving my car in a place I don’t know.  I had full intentions of driving myself home after the party.

I bought a 12-pack of Smirnoff, which would’ve been perfect for a night of binging, but I stopped drinking at about 1:00 am after having only had five in addition to a couple shots.  The party was moderately fun, but it just seemed like everyone was standing around in the kitchen with a beer in their hand.  There were probably 20 people there too.  This guy had a really nice basement with a pool table, arcade, TVs, and games, but everyone stood upstairs in the kitchen.  I didn’t want to go into the basement and sit down there all by myself.  We left the party at around 4:00 am, and I went home while everyone else went back to Luke’s.  I enjoyed going to the party, because it sure was better than sitting at home doing nothing.  I didn’t get to drink as much as I wanted though.

1999: Spent the night at my cousin's house; rode our bikes in the freezing cold from about 11-12:30 that night
2000: Stayed at my cousin's again, played cards all night and Nintendo 64
2001: Attempted to spend the night at Stu's house until my mom came and got me for reasons unknown.  I was so infuriated that I walked home in the snow without my shoes on.
2002: Stayed up until 8:30 am playing Xbox at Jewel's
2003: Went to Alisha's, past out in a laundry basket after smoking enormous quantities of marijuana
2004: The infamous Knight Inn party where I definitely overdosed on alcohol and passed out early
2005: Went to Jason’s and drank but left early out of boredom and went to Jewel’s just before 2:00 am and drank.  I left there at around four, but Kellie needed help finding her car and smoking pot.  I got home at around six.
2006: Went to HRI bar in Rockwood and hung out Stu and others.  Left the bar at around three after moderately drinking in fear of numerous patrolling cops
2007: Went to HRI again but was forced out early after a fight broke out and the bar closed.
2008: Went to a party at one of John’s coworkers.  The night almost fell through, and I didn’t get to drink as much as I wanted since I was suckered into driving.
