if you don't like the weather in chicago, wait 5 minutes

or, "Chicago gets all four seasons. sometimes in the same day."

OK, so maybe today it was wait 5 hours for just two seasons. but it was 50 degrees around 2:30. It is now 7:00 and 14 degrees and "blizzard-like" (well maybe that's just Fox news being dramatic). amazing. the low tonight is 3 degrees. and tomorrow's high in 19. WTF?!

my favorite Chicago weather memories ....

snow in May. I don't remember the year (maybe 1989 or 1990) but my mom used to always have a garage sale with her local nurses' club (they raised money for scholarships) every May. I usually set up a lemonade stand. that year I think I set up a hot chocolate stand. and it snowed. just a light flurry, but still.

wearing sandals in December. it was 2001, my buddies and I were taking a study break during finals, and decided to take our chaplains dog for a walk to the beach. and I wore sandals. now, I also had a roommate from California one year who would wear sandals all winter long. but she was crazy.

a snowstorm in October. this was more than just a flurry. it was 2000, I was home for winter break and my friend Gennie came over. she parked her van on the street in front of my house, under a tree. it started to snow, we didn't think much of it. until around 1am, when we got a call from a neighbor, letting us know that a branch had fallen on Gennie's van. because it was so early in the season, the leaves hadn't fallen, so the snow collected on them, weighing down the branches. we were able to lift the branch off her van and luckily there wasn't a scratch on it (it kind of fell over the van) but while we were out there we could hear branches snapping all up and down our street.

a blizzard in March. I was in high school and my brother Mark was home for spring break. what a great spring break, we got a blizzard. who wants to shovel snow on their spring break?
