Reference: serious sidequests

Apr 28, 2011 22:39

So I have been replaying Vesperia! And I finally got to the mid-game sidequests that are relevant to Raven that I haven't seen since the first time I played the game. I haven't been able to find them on YouTube, presumably because they are easily missable, and they are not particularly hilarious because they involve Raven being serious/responsible instead of just hitting on women badly.

...There is only a little bit of hitting on women badly in these scenes. :|b

Anyway I have transcribed them and I'm putting them here for future reference.

Fire lily (Casey scenes part 1)

[At the base of Ehmead hill, Estelle crouches to look at something.]

Estelle: Ah...!
Rita: What's with you...?
Estelle: These flowers are so pretty...
Raven: Hmm...? Hey, that's a cyrtanthus bloom.
Yuri: You actually know a lot about plants, don't you, old man?
Raven: Oh, I dabble here and there. ♪
Rita: Hmph... So what's that one called?
Raven: Hah? One second, it's a...teardrop tulip.
Rita: How about that?
Raven: Why, um... That's a, uh rainbow flower?
Rita: Wrong. Crimson nadesico and beautyberry. Some botanist you are.
Raven: I just happened to not know those.
Estelle: It looks more like you just happened to know cyrtanthus bloom.
Raven: No, no, really--
Yuri: So, how did you just happen to know about these nightshade flowers?
Raven: Argh, listen to me!
Karol: Sounds like you've got a special reason.
Raven: ...Kind of... Nightshade's just a flower an old friend of mine from the Knights used ta like. My friend's room was always full of 'em.
Yuri: So you have had a couple of friends, then.
Raven: You're sayin' that like it surprises ya. Poor old Raven'd just curl up and die if ya left him all alone.
Judith: Just what is the correct response when a man starts whining like a mouse, I wonder.
Raven: You say, "Oh Raven, you big silly, you're so cute."
Judith: Hah...That's not the word I'd use.
Raven: Argh...! Judith, darlin' you're cold as ice.
Rita: ...Good grief.
Estelle: It's a little like Flynn and Yuri, what with you having a friend in the Knights, and all.
Raven: Well now, it can't compare ta the shinin' example of friendship those two lads've got goin', but yeah. We were pals.
Yuri: I don't think of my friendship with Flynn as "shiny."
Raven: Really? But youth's a fleetin' thing for all of us. That friendship's long past, now.
Estelle: Oh, did you fight about something?
Raven: Hm, I s'pose ya could call it that. Would ya mind pickin' a few of those for me, young miss?
Estelle: Hmm? Oh, certainly.

[Obtained Fire Lily.]

Argh, nightshade and lilies are not remotely the same thing!! This precedes the rest of the Casey-relevant scenes I transcribed a long time ago, but I didn't have this one before.

Guild negotiations

[In Union HQ - a random member of Altosk approaches the party as they walk in]

Altosk member: Ah, Raven. Just the man I was looking for.
Raven: Oops, looks like I walked inta the wrong building by accident. See ya.
Altosk member: Wait! Just hear me out.
Raven: We've already got our hands pretty full with other people's troubles, ya know.
Altosk member: Harry isn't in any sort of state to help us with this...
Raven: Okay, okay. I'll hear what ya got ta say. But that's all!
Altosk member: Yes, sir! Recently, we've had countless skirmishes breaking out between the guilds and the empire. In the past, the Union has always mediated these disputes. But now that the Don has passed away, the Union is only a shell of what it once was.
Raven: The Union's not workin' like it use ta, so that's why yer comin' by yerself ta talk with me about this?
Altosk member: Yes. I hear that Fortune's Market and the Knights also clashed the other day over the sealing off of the Weasand of Cados.
Estelle: That would be Flynn's blockade, I think.
Yuri: Yeah, probably so.
Altosk member: And because of the law of no intervention between guilds, Altosk can't directly admonish Fortune's Market for what they did.
Raven: Restorin' the Union ta its former self may be the only choice we've got...
Altosk member: But Harry's in no condition to help, and we still need to do something about the next head of the Blood Alliance...
Raven: We've gotta take things one at a time. First off is yer guild, Altosk. Do somethin' ta fix that boy Harry up. And if I run inta Madam President, I'll see if I can't convince her ta do things right, through the Union.
Altosk member: I understand. Thank you for your help.
Karol: Miss Kaufman, eh? But I wonder where we can find her...
Raven: Don't ya worry about that. We don't hafta search fer her or anything. We'll just let her know if we happen ta see her.
Karol: But...
Yuri: You think that Altosk will be able to knock the Union back into shape, don't you old man?
Raven: They learn quick and act fast. They're the only thing keepin' the Union in check, if ya ask me.
Karol: Ahh, right.
Raven: So if we happen ta see that pretty president anytime soon, let's be sure ta ask fer her help.

[Raven lies; you go to seek Kaufman out in her office in Capua Torim - she is speaking with a random Empire official as you walk in ]

Kaufman: Having a travel permit is Fortune's Market's right, as it is our responsibility. Since you sealed off the roads, I guess you're okay with our cargo shipments not going to the capital?
Empire official: That's not what I'm saying!
Kaufman: It's just like Nordopolica. What gives the Knights--protectors of the people--the right to oppress them?
Empire official: The Imperial Knights don't need your permission to do what needs to be done. I can see we're not going to reach an agreement like this. Now, if you would please let me pass?
[He leaves.]
Kaufman: Wait...!
Raven: Sadly, what that official said is right.
Kaufman: Yuri Lowell? And you, aren't you with Altosk...
Raven: What a happy surprise ta be remembered by such a lovely lady.
Kaufman: Perhaps Altosk is planning on sticking its nose into the business of Fortune's Market?
Raven: Nah, I just came ta as fer yer cooperation. As a member of the Union.
Kaufman: Our cooperation?
Raven: Help us make the Union as strong as it useta be. Fortune's Market is one of the pillars of the Union. Or aren't ya? I'm sure ya know how important the Union is fer the guilds. We'll all just get trampled on if we don't work together against them.
Kaufman: ...This, from someone who's been parading all over the world with Yuri for the past how many weeks?
Raven: Altosk has already mobilized. That's why I'm out here gatherin' information.
Kaufman: I hear you've been traveling as the Don's right-hand man, and watching the Imperial Knights. All right, let's do it. We'll save face for you and the Don and promote the rebuilding of the Union.
Raven: I'm glad you're as decisive as they say.
Kaufman: It is an honor to be recognized as such by someone so well-versed in negotiations with the Empire.
Raven: Please, ya flatter me. I've just lived long enough ta get a little clever about these things.
Kaufman: I hope that I can do the same. Now, if you'll excuse me.
[She leaves.]
Karol: Raven, I'm impressed at how well you dealt with an imposing lady like Miss Kaufman!
Raven: Compared to the Don, she was nothin'.
Karol: Yeah. The Don was more...impressive.
Raven: Don't just agree with me! Where's the "But Raven, you were awesome!"
Karol: Huh? B-but...
Yuri: Come on, let's go.

WHY DO I LOVE RAVEN SO MUCH. Also I love Kaufman.
