Tech week is always crazy, but looking back I loved every minute of it!
Last Sunday we had our makeup workshop and Joe Rossi came in just like last semester! He remembered me which was great. I think I've discovered that I am WAY more competent at wigs (and cleavage - don't ask) than I am at stage makeup. No biggie, wigs rock! Anyway, this time we used a different type of wig which required WAY less pin-curling and instead gluing part of it to their foreheads!
The rest of the week was pretty insane. Between going to classes and then grabbing dinner to go every night to run to rehearsals that lasted until 10 or 11 and got progressively later as the week continued, it was a super busy week! Most nights I took lots of homework (so much is due next week and I'm leaving a day early!) and did it in between makeup and the show.
So, Monday was makeup/wig rehearsal day. Everthing went pretty well and it was the first time I saw the show. Really funny. It was a good time. Sarah, Rebecca, Kristen, Maddie and I watched and ate those sour peaches and Reces Pieces (I just realized I have no idea how to spell that). Prof. Sankus even laughed at a few of the jokes!
Tuesday, Joe came back to see how we were doing, correct any mistakes, and make a few changes. He told me he's working for Disney now too and doing the makeup for their new live-action film - "Underdog" which will be filming in his home state of Rhode Island (!) on a sound stage the Company's building! It was the first time we combined makeup, wigs and costumes for the show and again, it went really well. I found that I understood some of the lines and motives of the characters a little bit better as I was building on knowledge from the night before. (Tuesday I also helped out the Honors Program as a Freshman representative for Prospective Honors students. Although I only had time to walk my 'kid' to the caf (because of makeup call), she was super cool and said she'd IM me with questions. Her name was Megan and she rocked).
Wednesday there was sleet going on outside! It was so weird because we had had such nice spring weather up until then - I was even starting to study outside again! Oh well (yeah, it pretty much was rainy the rest of the week too). Wednesday was final dress and I hear it went really well. I took a nap in the TA room instead of watching it. I was pooped. But of course we had photo call, so it ended up being a late night. I'm kind of bummed we didn't take a cast and crew picture (or at least a crew picture) but oh well. Joan got Kristen and I to go up to the mansion with her and take two of her dressed display mannequins to her car for her. Kristen and I had such a hilarious time attempting to drag and carry the crazy things through the elegant mansion. Oh man, I will always remember how much we laughed and how ridiculous we looked.
Thursday was opening night and everything went really well. I had to put Mallory's hair in curlers a few hours before call and I was freaking out because I had never done it before and it was opening night. But, it came out nicely and Joan later said that it was definitely one of the best looking nights. I did homework backstage while the show was going on, but I hear there weren't any mistakes. After the show, we drove to Owen's do all eat together but their dining section was closed. So we drove to Bickham's, but they were closing in 45 mins. So, in the end, we decided to all get fast food and take it back to the TA room to eat. It was a good time because we were all together.
Friday, there were a few bumps in the show, so I'm told. Chris's present wasn't in his jacket pocket he had to improvise and give a cork to Ophelia. Kevin forgot his knife, so Chris put it in his jacket and attempted to slip it to him onstage. And then Chris's hair looked like it was going to fall out during intermission, but I found out 2 minutes before intermission was over, so I worried the whole second act about his hair falling out. It all turned out alright. After we all went to The 99 to eat. It was a nice time. I sat with (primarily) Kevin, Liz, Sarah, Phil, Laurie and her boyfriend Brian. We definitely had a good time.
Saturday (yesterday) finally arrived and after a week of running around, I was surprised to find I was going to miss the show. I'm going to miss the silly things like being glued to Peter's forehead, doing Mallory's hair, tying Chris's ribbon, the crazy acetone taking off everyone's wigs, running around yelling "did you cleavage?" at all of the girls, goofing around with Doug and Joan...the list goes on and on. STC is such great people. I loved hanging out with and getting to know everyone better.
I decided to watch the final show yesterday with most of the makeup people and Joan. Steve, Tim Gannon, Mike Ryan, Aubrey, Matt Voci and Amy came to the show (Dean Grant and Denise came on a different night); it was nice to see everyone. The show went well, there was really random laughter, but it was alright. Then in the second act, things started going a little wrong...like the baby didn't cry when Chris prompted it too so that was hilarious for us to watch because we knew it was supposed to.
Anyway, after the show, I packed up a bunch of boxes to mail back to Joe, Tufts, etc. Doug came over because he was just wandering around and he was like, "uh..I'm just checking to make sure you're packing that" lol. He couldn't even see what it was I was packing. So I was like "What, you don't trust me?" and he was like "Oh no no, I trust you...So far. But there's still time." lol The guy cracks me up. Before the show, he came down just to talk to the makeup and wardrobe crews. He said thank you to all of us in a really heartfelt way. He is such a good person. He said if there is anything he can do for us, just let him know. So nice.
So, our crews ran around the TA room helping Joan out while the actors were upstairs helping to deconstruct the set. Doug came down and tapped me on the shoulder when I was talking to Joan and he told her he was leaving for good. He had to go back to his hotel room to pack. He gave Joan a hug and said thanks for everything and the show looked just wonderful. I said "Bye Doug" as he was leaving and he waved. Then he came back and just looked at me like he was trying to figure out what to say. Then he carefully said "The next time you eat a Snickers, don't forget me." And he left.
^That was because he had seen me eating one the night before and we joked around about it. What a great guy. Although I didn't get cast in his show (and I was so bummed because I would have loved to have worked with the guy), he didn't look down on me for it and was always so nice to me in the hallways or on crew. Great director too. Hooray for Douglas Coler!
So, the makeup people were officially done and Rebecca and I came back to my dorm to change and hang out until the party. We watched 1/2 of OKLAHOMA! and then Liz and Sarah came to get us for the cast party. It was really nice with Pat's "mood lighting" in the TA room. And there was soo much yummy food and drink!! Gotta love it. Chris, Anna and Jeanine all presented The Cookie and The Golden Thongs awards to everyway. It was a jolly time and it was nice just to see everyone at ease and smiling all together about all of the jokes we shared. The cast even presented me with a Thank you card for the Makeup Crew. How nice!! Overall it was just a really really nice evening, with wonderful people with whom I am so glad to have gotten better acquainted with this week.
After that at about 4 am today, we went over to Ryan's room and watched a slideshow he made. It was really touching.
So, Horrid Massace in Boston went really well and I am so proud to have been a part of it.
