Yesterday was my 19th Birthday. My first one away from home. But I'm so happy and grateful to be able to say that my wonderful friends and family pulled through to make it a great and memorable day!
My parents sent me picture messages on my phone at midnight of them and my dog holding up a sign saying "Happy 19th Birthday". It was too funny! I loved it. What a great way to start out the day.
I woke up kind of early and Catherine went to the library and the gym. So I went to the caf to get brunch to go (since I was by myself). I ended up getting chocolate chip pancakes, melon and my favorite juice! An awesome birthday brunch. Then I came back to the room and was feeling pretty bored (I was watching a horrible made-for-tv movie by myself), but Catherine came back and had me open her present! The beginning of the fun. She got me a cute heart-shaped pillow that says "BE MINE" and a glass picture frame with a picture of us from the Black and White Mixer in it. She also got me a Mickey Mouse card(!) and her mom gave me a card as well. So sweet of her.
So then, we were absolutely bored and doing nothing so I decided we were going to walk through the blistering cold to the library where we could watch Nick's tape. We watched most of the show and it was very well done and quite entertaining. I was very happy to have a little piece of him with me on my birthday.
So, Catherine and I came back to the room and started to get ready to go to dinner. At 6pm, Sarah came over and we started the very, very cold walk to Bertucci's. The three of us walked through some very dark and scary woods (the moon wasn't out) and half way through we realized that despite the number of times we walked through those very woods, we were lost. So we stopped and pulled out our cellphones in an attempt to shine some light on the ground and find a path. It didn't really work so we decided to head towards the light of the road. Sarah and I proceeded to reenact the scene of "Finding Nemo" with Marlin and Dory heading towards the light - it was hilarious. We finally got to the road and made it to Bertucci's (only a little frost-bitten). Liz was already there waiting for us.
So, we were seated and I ordered my favorite Bertucci's drink: coke with grenadine in it. AND our waiter was really cute and funny. (Good job planning that, Liz). So we ordered (I got my favorite: tortellini) and we continued to converse and be our usual girly selves.
Then, out of the blue, I see someone running up to us from my left and handing a bouquet to me. It was PHIL! Phil got me a dozen peach roses.
The big, beautiful, long-stemmed type. Sooo pretty and sooo thoughtful! I was so excited and surprised - I even told the waiter! Phil said he couldn't stay, but it was sooo nice of him to bring me flowers.
So, as we were ordering, Liz blurted out to the waiter, Anthony, that it was my birthday (I didn't think this would produce a cake). Despite my doubts, we paid the bill and were just wondering why we didn't get a cake and song (2 other people in the restaurant had already had theirs while we were there) and then Anthony brought the receipts and stuttered, "I, um, if you could just wait a minute, I forgot something..." and then he ran off. Then he and two other Bertucci's servers came back with a cake and sang Happy Birthday along with the three girls. The middle part came out like "from Maria Bertucci's to" and it was hilarious and sweet and just plain wonderful. The chocolate cake was so yummy and was dressed with fresh raspberry sauce - YUM! It was lovely.
So then we got all bundled up to go back into the arctic (it was the coldest day all year) and the girls insisted that I put the bouquet down my jacket so that the flowers would stay warm.
I looked so ridiculous. We walked back through the woods and miraculously were not killed, maimed or lost.
Then we stopped off at Liz's room and Catherine and I went to the bathroom to but the roses in a vase. When we came back the door was locked and Sarah screamed that I had to close my eyes. They got me a cake!!!
Bridget and Liz had gone to the grocery store and bought me a cake that said "Happy Birthday Princess" on it! It was sooo nice of them.
So we ate the extremely yummy vanilla cake and I opened Sarah and Liz's presents.
Sarah's (still expertly wrapped in the bag) present was a dark grey ribbed tank top with a pretty and fun flower design over the heart. She also got me a new little bag to keep my cell phone in and a beautiful silver necklace with clear rhinestones on it that is shaped ornate butterfly. So nice, thanks Sarah! Liz got me this pretty burnt orange spaghetti strap shirt with a fancy design on it. She got me a matching scarf, earrings and bracelets. Thanks Liz, it'll be SUCH a cute outfit!
So after receiving birthday greetings from some of Liz's roommates, we walked back to my dorm room and openned the package from my parents. The got me a vibrating pillow (!), a gold/silver big purse, lots of food, 2 funny cards and a few other little things. I missed having them with me for my birthday, but I can't wait to see them in 2 weeks!
So, after hanging out for a while, Liz and I headed to the Hill for kareoke night! We saw Becki, Laurel, Laura, Phil, MP and company there. Liz and I did a sterling rendition of (most appropriate for the occasion): GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN! And it rocked.
The night was super fun, listening to songs and drinking camomile (my fav) tea.
So, I headed back to my room and noticed that the roses were litteraly frozen in the vase.
They're kind of a weird color now too. Oh well, they were a lovely gesture.
So then I turned on the radio with my headphones on (it was 1am and Catherine was asleep) and proceeded to listen to Phil's radio show for the first time. Ten minutes into listening to it, Phil dedicates a song to me on my birthday: Total Eclipse of the Heart - one of my favorites! I was sooo happy and grateful. So I called in and said thanks. Then a half hour later, another song was dedicated to me: Livin' on a Prayer, from the girls in Liz's room! It was soo nice of them! I love that song. So, Phil's show is awesome. He plays good music and has entertaining commentary.

Thank you so much everyone. Yesterday's events meant so much to me.
Tonight, Sarah, Liz and I are going into Boston to see "Les Miserables".
It will be my first time seeing it! What a great way to continue to celebration.
I miss you all. Thanks so so much.
