the danger of dreams
Ten, Rose/Ten, 442 words, G,
he can still feel the compression in his chest as he absorbed the impact of her smile

He missed the echo of her laughter the most.

If he’s still and quiet long enough, he thinks he can hear the shades of it dance its way through the halls of the Tardis, up and down the empty corridors. He closes his eyes and holds himself steady in order to keep her laughter near. He smiles as he clings to the memory of her laughter, wanting to hold onto it for as long as he can.

But inevitably it fades away, drifting away into mist and he’s left with nothing but the memory. So he shakes himself off, throws a lever and he’s off on his next adventure.

Alone and without the echo of her laughter.

He missed the sparkle of her smile the most.

She loved to laugh and she loved to smile. Whenever she would turn the full force of her smile on you, it easily made that person feel like the most important being in the whole of the universe. He can still remember the first time she had smiled at him, can still feel the compression in his chest as he absorbed the impact of her smile.

Her entire face would light up and her smile was breath taking, swallowing up any doubts or fears that might’ve lurked beneath the surface. Her smile was addictive and he started to crave the feeling that would wash over him every time she smiled. So he would do anything he could to make her smile. Taking her to the dusty planet of Segonax, visiting Titan or having a snowball fight on the glacier planet of Nyla; he did everything he could to hold onto her smile.

But everything wasn’t enough and too soon he lost the brilliance of her smile.

He missed the sound of her voice the most.

The way her voice would curl around you, coating you with warmth and love. Her voice carried all her passion, all her courage, and all her love inside of it. It had a hidden melody that imprisoned him with its secret song. He believed that her voice was the key to his soul and he knows now that he would trade it to hear that sound of her voice again.

Just one whisper of her voice.

He could recite a litany of things he missed; he could remember her courage, her freedom, her compassion. There was her love and passion, the way she lit up a room when she entered it and the way she loved life. He could recite this litany for the rest of this lifetime.

But nothing will change the fact that he simply missed Rose the most.
