Jim's motorcycle was broken.
Well. That wasn't exactly true. It was more that Jim's motorcycle had a part that was about to malfunction. She'd thought about mentioning it to him, but her son got oddly possessive about that bike at times, and hadn't exactly been in the best mood for the past few weeks - although he'd actually mentioned, briefly, what it was that was bothering him. Maybe that was par for the course for other mothers, but it was the first time Jim had ever revealed as much to Winona, and she didn't want to throw a spanner in the works at this early stage.
So it was that she decided that it would be a better idea to just have the necessary replacement part on hand for a) when the part blew and b) when Jim figured out what was wrong. Since she didn't actually have the part just lying around like she planned on telling Jim she had, she had to go out and get the thing.
