So, I sort of decided I want to be a high school history teacher again. While history is no longer my first love, it still is one of them--and, hell, if this teaching thing works out, I'll more than certainly be able to fish up another degree or two, and even maybe move up to the college setting.
I still have my Subject Area Certificate; it's valid until June 29th, 2010. To be rewarded with my Teacher's Certificate, I need that, along with the Professional Certificate and the General Knowledge Certificate. Thankfully, the General Knowledge is a few steps above the difficulty of the ASVAB, and reminds me more of a high school competency test than anything else. It's divided into four sections--math, reading, writing, and... English language competency. Susan and I were looking through the study books for them, and it all very much reminded me of shit I was tested on in high school.
The reading section looks like cake. Read this passage and find the main idea. What is the tone the author is trying to convey? As for the writing section, it comes naturally to me--and, hell, English language competency comes with both being able to read and being able to write. Just need to brush up, I figure, on grammar articles. The only section I'm worried about is math, and only because I've never really focused on it.
As for the Professional Certificate, it's as--as far as I can figure out--simply understanding the basics of running and managing a classroom. I had a crash course on all of this in college, still have my notes of this from college, now own the book I think my prof used as the source material for the stuff he taught us in college.
June 29th, 2010.
This is totally do-able.
And then I'll be gagging over horrible history papers and wishing I were back at Best Buy. ;)
