Dignity, always dignity

On second thoughts, dyeing my hair red for the summer probably wasn't the best idea. The saying goes that horses sweat, men perspire and ladies glow. In the current weather walking all of a few feet has me glowing furiously, and in a colour that doesn't sit well with the hue of my hair.

Yesterday I went on an iPhone adventure, a bit like a Mini adventure I suppose, except where the google map app tells you that you are definitely, definitely standing directly outside the post office depot but you're not, you're in a dodgy garage, and it's only after a lot of "let's help the little lady" from two mechanics that you realise you are in fact opposite the depot. Across lots of trees and some railway tracks. So on my adventure I'd run to the post office depot just in time to collect my parcel, then had to head back to the highstreet to the post office to post a letter by recorded delivery (why are these things never in the same place?) and by the time I joined the back of the lengthy queue I was glowing like I'd just run a marathon. I'll be honest, there was a bit of perspiration too.

Anyway, I'm standing in the queue fanning myself with my A4 sized letter and I notice I'm getting a few funny looks. I assumed it was due to the beacon-like appearance of my face clashing with my hair, akin to a bad Dulux sample sheet, until I looked down at my letter. The envelope contained my prison security clearance (for my placement starting in November) and as such the envelope was emblazoned in large block (turquoise, oh why do I never have a sensible pen?) capitals with "HMP BELMARSH".

So, yeah, the heat, I don't like it. I also don't like the fact that the majority of this year's summer dresses are of the maxi variety. I want a cooling summer dress but a maxi dress on my height and proportions would leave me looking like a tent. A bulky eight-man one at that. Fail.
