[The image on the screen shows a wall in a room with a bunch of different pictures on it.  As he moves from one picture to another, Luke's voice can be heard almost like a voiceover, but he's clearly speaking to all of you.]

I been meaning to do this for a while now, especially when I ran across a couple people here who apparently come from a world ( Read more... )

I'm one of the people from a universe sort of like that. But our guy everyone aspires to be is Superman.

Huh, never heard of that one. What's so "super" about him?

He can fly, he's basically invulnerable, heat vision, freeze breath, he's faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound... He can do anything. [Still a Superman fanboy at age 23, while being basically the guy's adoptive nephew. Dick is a dork.]

Who's that kid in the picture with Captain America?

Wow, somebody was extra good when they got their powers.

Oh, that's Bucky. His sidekick.

He didn't really get them. He was sort of born with them.

You guys have those too?

Wow, he must've had some badass parents.

Not a lot of people do anymore because of how dangerous it is for them.

Yeah. I mean, even on simple jobs, one stray bullet can end a kid's life. Not many heroes are willing to let a kid risk their life like that.

Sometimes it's not their choice. The heroes, I mean. The kids want to be involved.

Mm. Maybe. They'd have to be damned good though. Trained and everything. I can't say I'd ever let a kid work under me even then, but that's just how I am.

Kids should get to be kids.

People don't send untrained teenagers out into the field.

I'm not going to try and say it's the best parenting and/or mentoring technique or anything, and it's probably different for everyone, but they can still do kid stuff. And sometimes, they didn't really have a choice. Kids don't decide to run around in a cape and tights because they've got perfect home lives.

Yeah, you gotta point there bout the home lives. Guess it's those of us who don't really have the best childhood that want other kids not to have to go through the same thing.

Exactly. Everyone's got their reasons.
