I've read and enjoyed remixes for a while now. Before I got into writing fanfic myself, some of the best stories I read were remixes. Thus I was thrilled when I found out that I qualified for the remix and after a short moment of panic (1000 words minimum? I can't write 1000 words minimum!), I signed up, buoyed by managing to write long stories (

otherwise Spike would have gleefully told Buffy to boil the leaves with the water for half an hour and maybe to add a dash of vinegar or something.
Hee. Well, yes. Lots of potential for disaster there.
I think "Bitter If Steeped Too Long" is a clever and absolutely perfect sum-up of the story.
I do far better, if I can shoehorn the story into some kind of formal structure.
Me too! Especially with short things. Hence, for example, "A Man of Many Colors."
I read a dozen recipes and finally distilled something for Spike to say.
Yeah, I skipped the whole "research" part of the original fic. :) Actually, I wrote the whole thing in one sitting, as a sort of "feel-better" fic for a friend who was having a rough day and loved Buffy and Giles together. I never had any idea it'd lead to something so lovely and insightful as your remix.
Giles probably can tell the mountain it was grown on and whether the guys harvesting it wash their hands daily.
Just wanted to say I love this line.
That is actually projection. I like that moment when making coffee or tea.
Yay for personal experience in fic. To be honest, the whole inspiration for the original fic is that I like tea when I'm sick (although I use the silly papery bag kind *g*).
Tricking Spike sounded strange. Here he volunteers the information out of sympathy with a fellow countryman. I hope that snickfic won't see that as criticism of her story.
Nope, not at all. Personally, I'm still willing to buy that Buffy really did trick Spike into telling her, because it makes me giggle, but unexpectedly!helpful!Spike is always fun, too. Besides, I love it when stories get told differently from different points of view, like here. I'm a total sucker for Fun With POV. :)
Spike's snark in third person was remarkably tricky, but I think I've pulled it off.
Totally. I loved the Spike-voice all the way through.
Yay, commentary! I have to say, this makes me appreciate the fic all the more. Thank you.

I used to be a tea "expert" roughly 30 years ago, when it was hip among teenagers of a certain stripe here. I actually could tell a Darjeeling from an Assam, but that skill is long lost and I usually use the paper bag kind too, nowadays.
Still, finding out whether there was a specific secret/ritual/whatever to British tea did take a few hours of googling in the office.
