What do you do after spending hours and hours outside in hot as balls weather? You goddamn essay, of course.

Kaito's relationships: Aoko vs Tear.

First and foremost: Kaito is a giant tsundere. This is hilarious because he likes to pick on tsunderes the most. However, this means that even though he likes someone, he won't admit it to himself or... well, them. He may tease them, or flirt with them, or just be a gigantic jerk to them but it's mostly to hide the fact that, hey! He really likes them! So keep in mind that his attitude towards Aoko and Tear for the most part is teasing/jerkish.

Kaito likes Aoko. Even now, he still likes Aoko. In fact, it will probably take awhile for him to stop liking her in the romantic sense, even while on the island. Because, let's face it, after spending almost your entire life with someone and being virtually inseparable, it's going to take a little bit more than just over a year's worth of separation to make those feelings vanish. And even if you take away the romantic feelings, Aoko is still his childhood friend. His best friend. Quite honestly, the only person Kaito feels as if he has a higher duty to is his dad.

To put things in perspective: Kaito is deathly terrified of fish. Yes, it's used as a comedic device, but it's still a pretty serious phobia. He will run away screaming at just the smallest fish. Yet when Aoko was in danger, he attacked a goddamn shark to save her. And then didn't think anything of it afterward because, holy shit, Aoko needed his help! He would jump in front of bullets for this girl. He "stole" a clock tower for her. He becomes insanely jealous when other people show interest in her (re: Hakuba).

And most of all, it hurts the most when he has to lie about her. Being Kid is hurting her emotionally; Aoko's stressed over how much work her father puts into catching Kid, and over the fact that no matter how hard he tries, he can never catch the thief. So, of course she hates Kid. And obviously, Kaito is... well, Kid. So Kaito has to deal with Aoko being unhappy because of his mission. And honestly? At times it makes him doubt what he's doing, but he never stops. So he goes out of his way to help her; small things, but it's still something. And he hopes that one day, she'll forgive him. Because if she finds out and ends up hating him for it, he'd be completely crushed.

So Kaito went to the island and met Tear. It started out normal enough. He flirted with her, acted like the proper gentleman, etc. But he made a mistake when he first arrived. He didn't think much of it, because he didn't think that Tear really noticed it-- but she did. And that eventually led to him admitting that he is, in fact, Kaitou Kid. But that honestly didn't matter much to him. She wasn't from his world; she couldn't affect it as long as she didn't tell Kazuha or anyone else from his world. And he knew that she wouldn't. At that point, Tear had already become his closest friend on the island.

They went through countless events and adventures together. Closest friend turned into a crush. He didn't really act too much on it though, cause like I said. Tsun tsun dere dere. And eventually, the crush evolved into something more. It's kind of difficult to not like the girl who you routinely risk your life with in ruins, while you both know each other's secrets. They went on dates-- well, Kaito called them dates, and Tear just went along with it.

Tear is the one who acted out on her feelings first. Which may have been surprising to some, since Kaito was usually the more forward one in the relationship. And Kaito's response? He finally revealed to Tear the real reason why he stole jewels as Kid; before he only told her some made up story. So Tear ended up feeling bad, and Kaito reassured her that it was okay. Then he ended up avoiding her for a month. It's not that once he found out she was interested that he suddenly wasn't, but... It was a lot to take in. Kaito's #1 mission: Avenge his father. Which means that his #1 priority as of now: Get back home. And with something like that in mind, it's pretty plain to see that having such a giant attachment like a relationship wasn't really on his agenda. Yes, he liked Tear. But it was his duties back home that kept coming up in his head. He could go home at any minute; why date Tear when he or she could disappear the very next day?

It wasn't just that though. Like stated before, Kaito still had feelings for Aoko. Has. It kind of felt like betraying her, honestly. Which was honestly why Kaito was kinda shocked at finding out about Kazuha and Crow dating. He knew that Kazuha felt the same way over Heiji that he did over Aoko. And even though Kazuha didn't think so, Kaito was pretty damn sure that Heiji felt the same way. BECAUSE THAT'S HOW GOSHO BOYS ROLL. So, Kazuha's situation pretty much mirrored his own: Childhood friend vs closest island friend.

In the end, though, Tear helped him realized that he was stuck in the past. Both of them had very important missions waiting for them back home. She had to save her entire world, after all. But that didn't mean they had to sacrifice their happiness on the island. After that talk, Kaito asked Tear to be his girlfriend as long as they both realized that it wouldn't last forever. The island would send them back to their respective worlds someday, and whether or not they would ever see each other again after that was up in the air. But it's enough for now.

Kaito admitted something to Kazuha (this was before he started dating Tear). That if he had to save either Aoko or Tear, he would most likely go with Aoko. He would never forgive herself if something happened to her. It's the same with Tear, but-- Tear can take care of herself. Hell, Tear can take care of more than just herself. Kaito is protective of her, but not to the point of how protective he is of Aoko. Even while dating Tear, if Hakuba makes any references to Aoko, Kaito's reaction will still be jealousy and annoyance. However, Kaito would also risk his life to save Tear. And if anyone hits on her, he will also be defensive (if anyone apps a short haired Luke, that will bring such fun times).

Aoko's closer to the love point than Tear is. But. His relationship with Tear still has a lot of room to grow. Like said before, he spent most of his life with Aoko vs not even two years with Tear. So while his relationship with Tear isn't quite at the point as the Aoko one is, there is a chance that it can get there. It just depends on where it goes from here. And so far? It's been going in the right direction.
