Leaving England VIA RyanAir.

I found out the hard way Euros aren't used in Poland. I meant to take out 50 Euro, and *BAM*, fifety "zloty" came out.

Since I went by myself, I found some other Americans I immediately imposed myself on, so here is like the only picture I'm in to prove I went here, ha.

Wawel Castle.

King's robe from the 1600s

1000 year old cathedral and catacombs.

lol?

The stairs leading to where I stayed.

The inside door leading to my "apartment" I stayed in.

Then the view from the street. Thanks, orbitz.com for screwing me!

more zloty

bubbles!

krakow city center.

hopefully this WON'T be me and mikey one day. i hate birds.

they kept trying to get the birds to fly on me, haha.

beautiful Krakow.

Look! I was really there!

talking to sad Mikey on Skype in an internet cafe.

US Illinois plates. Crazy, we don't even have any US bases in Poland so I was curious to what it was doing there.

from my "apartment" window.

"work will set you free" at the gates to Auschwitz.

me.

the kitchen.

actual cyclon B used in the gas chambers. per 4 cans killed 1,500 people.

a mountain of 80,000 shoes.

there was also a mountain of people's suitcases. this was a baby's.

2 TONS of human hair. I think there was a total of 6 tons.

walkers and leg braces.

the workers quarters. there were thousands of non-jews in the concentration camps, theres were intellects hitler viewed as threats. most of them were teachers or just had an educational background. every worker died in the holocaust from exhaustion or disease and these were the people who were treated better than the jews.

male workers, all victims of the holocaust.

where they lived.

other sleeping areas.

crazy awkward american asking people to take photos.

squint.

i wish this picture hadn't come out like this. this is a starvation chamber. 10 jews at a time would be put in here until the last of them died. this particular chamber is famous because a man was selected to go, and in his screamings he said he didn't want to die because he needed to live for his son. a rabbi over heard this and volunteered to take this man's place. the rabbi died after 14 days in here.

the "death wall". people would be taken here, lined up and shot.

gas chamber 1

crematorium.

inside the gas chamber. there were 4 holes in the corners where zyclon b was dropped.

electic fence. many jews threw themselves into this, commiting suicide.

the trees were planted by victims of the holocaust.

birkenau.

all trains lead to birkenau. here is the famous enterance.

inside the camp.

ew.

posters were everywhere, which made it more interesting.

one of the buildings where the jews lived.

toilets. people were only allowed here twice daily.

yes, these are the toilets, and at any time, they were all being used.

every 2 chimneys was a building where they lived, but they were made of wood so over the rough winters, the only thing left are the chimneys.

the reserved buildings.

a reserved living quarter.

3 people per bed.

a few days after the war ended.

from inside the gate looking into birkenau.
