I went to a catholic grammar school
St Joan of Arc. Being at a Catholic grammar school meant a few things.
I obviously had to wear uniform, when I start was Yellow shirt and Green Sweater. Eventually that was changed to white shirt and Blue sweater.

The other thing I had to do was go to 9am Friday mass once a month with the rest of my grade. We also had all the special holidays were we didn't rank a day off, but still needed to attend mass.

I was thinking about this this morning while reading Jim Carroll's "Forced Entries" when he was describing a church.

St Joan's was and still is a beautiful church, but as a child sitting there trying to keep from falling asleep I'd occupy myself.

The church would suddenly become over run with Cobra soldiers. and the Church would have to defend itself. Votive candles would turn sideways and become flamethrowers. Ornate brass ventilation covers would fold down to reveal laser cannons. The gothic hanging lights would drop from the ceiling crash to the floor and battle androids would emerge. Priest, or GI Joes dressed as Priests would fight soldiers with the candles and crosses like they were bayonets. It was all very violent, though not often graphic.

Anyway I'd like to say I eventually outgrew this, but I haven't. On slow boring days my place of business often finds itself victim to all sorts of terrorist and or zombie attacks, asteroid strikes and roof collapses.
