MicroStation isn't so bad....

My internship is going quite swimmingly. Things are working out nicely, and the people I work with love me (as far as I know). I do some cool stuff. I started out the week working on tutorials for GeoPak. It runs off of MicroStation and helps you manage a project for roads and whatnot. you can do profiles and cross-sections, shit like that. Well, my latest project is working on the S.R. 79 project in Heath. They're proposing the installment of a medium down 79 from BP to Hopewell road (i think). All i'm doing is the existing storm sewer drawings of 79 on the profile. It's cool.

Also, today I got to take the company GMC Yukon to Pataskala to find out the speed limit of Refugee road. That car was sweet. I got to go all by myself, so it's nice that they trust me that much on just my 3rd week there. So I get there, and the POS county road has no posted speed limit. So when I find out the reason i drove there was to do traffic warrants on intersections for SR 310 and Refugee Road. The warrants were for the 20 year growth rate for the area and if they'll need right/left turn lanes for the studied intersections. You're given graphs out of the ODOT volume 1 book and you have to have a speed limit above 40 mph, so I had to make sure it was above that. With no posted speed limit, I believe a county raod is 50 mph unposted. So i had to use the drawing Susan gave me and calculate the traffic to see if the intersections warranted right/left turn lanes. It was neat. I love working there. They don't expect me to be an expert, but they still give me stuff that carries enough responsibilty to make me feel like I'm actually helping out with their projects. It's awesome. I love this job, and actually see myself doing it as a profession after graduation. Plus i get a check for 300 bucks every week, and that's awesome for just being an intern. Thats probably better than working a factory job. I get to work with awesome people who curse all day. They talk a lot. One guy was born in New Zealand, grew up in England and moved from Georgia. He's a HUGE soccer fan, as in, he's leaving work tomorrow at 11 to watch the world cup game tomorrow. Thats how huge he is. We talk soccer and golf a lot. It's sweet. I work in A/C, with great people, and it's actually really full-filling to do this stuff. I think i'm learning a lot, and I'm starting to catch on MicroStation (the CAD software we use).

We also got shirts ordered for us. The company decided to buy all the employee's 2 shirts from a catalog with the Jobes logo, and i didn't know if i was eligible just being an intern, but i was! So i got 2 sweet collared shirts for free! and they aren't like "ultra formal" shirts. They're striped like a trendy collared shirt. They're awesome, can't wait to get them!

I'm also awaiting my bluetooth HS850 i got off Ebay for 40 bucks. It retails for $99.99 on the Motorola website, so thats cool. I get paid tomorrow, more money in the bank. Sweeeeeeeeet.

My life is really cool right now. The Sunfire is up for sale, meaning I'm stuck with the red S-10 til I can "buy my own car". It's okay, at least its a 5 speed. I'm debating on the motorcycle. It's in the air right now.

I want to buy the "Tourist Trophy" PS2 game, but not sure yet. It's the equivalent of Gran Tourismo, but with motorcycles. It looks awesome. That's all I know.

Morgan and I are great. About 3.5 months down, a lot more to go. That's a great part of making my life so awesome right now.

Well, i need to get off here and shower, work in the AM. Late.
