Yesterday, Steven and I went to Belfast together. It's not that far from where I live - only about 35-40 minutes by car. But since we are stuck with public transport, it takes 55 minutes by bus. Which wasn't so bad, we just listened to my iPod the whole way. :P
We had organized to go on a
Black Taxi Tour as well. After arriving in Belfast, grabbing a Starbucks, and looking in a few shops, we met up with Norman, our guide. He drove us around the city (just the two of us) and took us to all the famous murals. Steven was fascinated, as he'd never seen them before. I have done a similar tour with my mom two years ago, but it was still very cool, and he took us to some places we didn't go then. I managed to take plenty of photos, and I'm happy with the way they turned out - better than I thought!
I've seen the
Peace Walls several times now, and it never fails to impress me. It stands for so much. For division between the two communities, for the violence they have comitted. But also for desperate attempts to find peace. The thousands of messages written on the wall by strangers - messages of hope, courage, rebuilding. It's hard to describe how impressive they are. Not for their shape or size or scale, but for their meaning, their implications.
These are just a couple of the photos I took,
go here to see them all.
We did some more shopping, and finally ended up in the Disney store where I saw the coolest pair of panties:
Pirates panties!! I had to have them, of course. :D Yay pirates!
With the bus back, we were home around 7.30, and had another nice and relaxing evening. So, in short, am still having a great time with my brother. :D
