Ruling 3 (Action)

[When Eiki thought back on her conversations while in the city, she knew there one large thing she was lacking, and that was knowledge. She new very little about the town, and things she had always taken for granted before, were difficult now. She needed to learn more, and the place to do that was of course the library. This was where she would ( Read more... )

[The library's books are all mysteriously tailored to fit the stereotype assigned to the visitor - or they have been, last time Ciel checked. So it's actually surprising to see that someone has so many books stashed on their table, and going through them so diligently to boot.

She'll keep her tone low. This is a library, after all.]

Hmm... Excuse me, miss?

[Lucky for Eiki she was in need of the kind of material the library offered her. She would have been at a loss if she had been looking for anything outside what a typical woman in this town was suppose to do.

She looks up when she hears the voice.]

Yes?

May I ask what you're looking for? The library usually doesn't have much helpful material to offer, so it's surprising to see someone so focused on what's available.

[It was a bit embarrassing, but there was no reason to hide it.]

I have been having issues trying to fill my role, so I thought it would be best to do some research on it.

[That makes sense. She nods in understanding.]

That of a mother and a housewife, if I may presume? [That would confirm two things: that this woman is a recent arrival, and that she did something rather unique, or lived quite differently from an ordinary human, back in her world.]

Yes. Though I am familiar with what is considered a proper wife and mother, I'm at a bit of a loss trying to figure out what is right for this place.

As long as you cook for them and clean the house, I do believe that it should be enough. ...It's a period of time when women are expected to be subservient to men, so if you have a drone husband, you would likely have to listen to his whims. [She offers a small and sheepish smile.] Following would be up to you, of course. Some of the drone's requests can be less than reasonable.

What sorts of things are they known to request?

[She was very tempted to avoid them, but it was a little hard.]

...That would depend on the drone, I suppose. I can't think of anything specific on the spot, but seeing that women are still considered inferior to men, drone men can be rude and abrasive in the assessment of their authority over you. He likely will not respect your personal space either, especially if he is to believe that you are his wife.

That is troubling. So far they have only demanded proper meals, which they complain about when I try. But I have yet to really interact with any others.

[A small sigh.] If they do overstep their boundaries, please don't hesitate to retaliate. That said, are you learning to cook? I can help with that, if you're looking for simple recipes.

I will act within reason, but thank you for the advice. And yes, I'm not very familiar with the food they wish, it was not something commonly offered or anything I've really thought about before.

It's the best that we can do. [Nod.] May I take a look at those, [... There's a mature air about her.] madam? [She'll come over to the other side of the table, and gesture towards the pile of cookbooks that are stacked there.]

Please, be my guest. I found it easier to just pile what looked useful enough, and go through them slowly.

Aha, your diligence and patience are really admirable. [She'll do that though, and start picking out a few books and going through the table of contents, bookmarking easy recipes like salads, omelets, pasta dishes, vegetable soup, and such.] Those should be simple to make, and filling enough to last for a good while. As long as you follow the recipe, it should turn out okay. [She'll hand the other woman the few books that she has gone through, along with the piece of paper where she noted down the relevant recipes' page number.] Should I keep looking?

I wouldn't say that, I think I have rather normal patience.

[She takes a look at the bookmarked entries.]

I think this should do. There's no reason to be particularly varied at this stage.
