Liz doesn’t think she can stomach being on set that night, so she puts Pete in charge and watches the taping from her office.

Around nine, her phone rings. “Are you coming over tonight or are you still mad at me?” Floyd asks.

“I’m not mad,” she sighs. “Just disappointed.”

“But we’ll call and visit and I don’t know--”

“Text?” She snorts. “It’s not quite the same. I really like you.”

“And I’ll still be here for two weeks, so come over. I’ll get burgers.”

“I just can’t tonight. I need to be alone for a little while.”

“Don’t shut me out, Liz.”

“But you can’t blame me for trying, can you?”

“No,” he admits. She hangs up with him, collapsing against the desk. It would happen that the best person she’d dated in years would want to move eight hours away. She tried not to think it was a sign that they had gotten involved too quickly.

There’s a soft knock on her door. She lifts her head from the desk. It’s Pete. “Are you okay?” His forehead is wrinkled in concern.

“Uh, not really. Floyd’s moving to Cleveland.”

“Oof. I’m really sorry, Liz. I know you really liked him. Do you want to go get drunk or something?”

“Thanks for the offer. No, I’m gonna be lame and go home and sit in the dark by myself.”

“Okay. Hey, the show went well without Tracy. We might be okay.”

“Yeah,” Liz nods absently. Suddenly the show doesn’t seem as important. She tells Pete good night and takes the stairs down, able to be alone with her thoughts, her footsteps echoing in the stairwell.

She decides to embrace her inner girliness, kicking off her shoes as soon as she walks in the door, and heads into her bedroom to change into pajamas. She pulls out an almost empty bottle of wine and a full container of ice cream and flops onto the couch.

When she can’t stomach anymore Americone dream without going into a diabetic coma, she picks up the phone.

“Hey, does this law firm have a New York branch?”

“I don’t think so. Why?”

“Maybe you could start one. Lots of travel to New York.”

“Not a bad idea.” She imagines the slow grin spreading across his face.

“And the show won’t last forever. Especially if Tracy doesn’t turn up soon.”

“You really would move to Cleveland?”

“Well, the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame is awfully nice.” She pauses. “And there’s a pretty great guy there too.”
