"They'll be moving a lot more now," Penelope said, as she carefully tapped her wand to Susan's stomach to perform the usual diagnostics. "Around this point, they can hear things from the outside, so they may be reacting. They've also moved into the foetal position, so you might have been stuck with them doing that for a bit."

Penelope smiled. Not even society as it was could take away the magic of children. "What position are you sleeping in?" she asked, leaning back against the sideboard.

"Don't I know it. Terry's been reading to Bean every night and she seems to like his voice, shifting and spinning as she does. I don't blame her though. Terry's got one of those voices."

Susan shifted on the chair, the wood creaked a bit beneath her and she winced slightly because creaking chairs were not something she had happen to her prior to all this. The extra weight seemed to make her pause a lot lately.

"The only one I can seem to get any sleep in. On my side. I had to nick a couple of cushions from downstairs. One between my knees and I've started tucking one under the side of my stomach."

"Good," Penelope said, with a smile. "It's bad for the baby's circulation to sleep on your back at this point."

"All I need to do this time round is run a couple of standard disease checks and then give you the usual lecture about watching for anything that doesn't feel right. I'm not worried about that though - you've got Terry there if I'm at work, and you know you have ways of contacting me if I'm away and there's an emergency."

Penelope had already made sure that her owl lived at headquarters, knowing that St Mungo's would let him deliver messages to her even when she was on shift. Smiling, she began to run this month's tests on Susan's baby.

Susan watched as Penelope worked and wrote down results in a notebook. Ravenclaws were just as hard working as Hufflepuffs, Susan had noticed over the years, they were just more meticulous with their work. And Penny's even handwritten notes were no exception.

Striking up a casual conversation on unrelated matter seemed to come naturally to Susan and she'd had a number of them with Penelope during these visits.

"Before Christmas, we decided to wait on getting married." Susan reached and dragged her fingertip along the shelf beside her chair. Then she looked at Penny, her next question seemingly coming from nowhere in particular. "Can I ask you something? Are you familiar with Muggle telephones?"

Making a careful note of the baby's clean bill of health for gestational diabetes, she placed cool hands on Susan's stomach and began to check for any unusual lumps or growths (she thought it was an idiotic part of the procedure - surely the mother knew her own body much better than any Healer).

"Of course," Penelope replied, smiling. "We always had one in the house when I was growing up. Why do you ask?"

A strong kick was planted against the palm of her hand and she couldn't help but laugh happily.
