Arthur's hands were shaking.
It was beginning to hypnotise him, the way that his hands - wrapped around a pint as if it might attempt to escape his grip - would bounce against the cold glass in tandem. No matter how much he strengthened his grip, they continued to shake. Letting out a gruff noise, he folded his arms and leant forwards onto the table. It was like getting married all over again.
The thought made him look down at his watch and grip it tightly. The only item he had kept that she had given him. An onlooker might find it strange - the face was clear of numbers, and there were no hands visible there. But if one looked close enough, and had very good eyesight, they would be able to spot some tiny words inscribed. One had always seemed much more legible than the others to Arthur. In the place of midnight - Mortal Peril.
It was some years since the one hand had been there.
Rubbing at his eyes tiredly, Arthur leant back in his chair and waited patiently for Percy to appear.
