Damn, went too far. And I know it was just a coping mechanism, too, so it was probably a bit cruel to do that, but by god some people just don't get it. This is all my fathers fault. He didn't have to marry a Muggle and father a mudblood, but having done so the least he could do was revise his opinions. And maybe he did, when he first married her. ( Read more... )

That's quite an opinion you've got there Miss Fawcett. I take it you don't care much for the politics behind this war then?

Er, sorry, I worked up a bit of a rant there. I've calmed down now. Didn't end up going to Diagon Alley at all, had a screaming match with my dad and just went downtown.

But yes, as you can tell, I'm bloody sick of it. Once I got thinking about it it all just seemed so... pointless.

But it's not pointless, really. It's about survival, and about the right to live. You-Know-Who and you know that looks really funny written down... doesn't have a right to decide who lives and who dies and we have the right to fight back when severely wronged. That's all... At least, that's how I see it. But I suppose everyone's allowed their own opinion of it all.

Well, he may have started it, but has it occurred to you that we aren't dealing with the problem? Yes, we're "fighting for survival" as you say - and then what? The problem will still be here. Voldemort and I'm not bloody scared of HIM either, you know who my ass is not the problem. We are the problem, and I mean We as in EVERYONE, not just one of the so called "sides". We don't care about it except when it's knocking at our door, dark mark in hand. It's like being hexed and just buying rash cream instead of taking the curse off!

Damn, I'm starting to rant again. It's not.. it's just all stupid, that's all.

It's what comes of being opinionated, I suppose... You ranting, I mean. And really, as you saym the problem will still be here. So what is there to do about it? I'm not really sure I'm understanding where you're coming from, but ever since Umbridge, really I've taken to trying to find out as much as I can about people and this war, so I'd really like to.

What I mean is - oh, this is so logical in my head, it's hard to get it on paper. See, what Voldemort is doing... apart from trying to take over the world, right? the reasons behind this whole Death Eater thing are mainly along the lines of "We're elitist bitches, Muggles suck so lets kill them." So - you think this hasn't happened before? I've read my history. There's always been this... feud. I guess it was easier to hide bfore Muggles started developing all this technology and stuff, so it's just being squeezed, but the sentiment was always there, you understand? Muggle-hunting has happened before, half-bloods have been discriminated against before, and even after Voldemort is defeated it will happen again. Because we're just dealing with the consequences, not the problem itself.

But...if we deal with the problem itself, this elitist thinking, how would you propose we do that? I mean, it's a spectacular theory, really, it is, but...I don't see how it would be possible unless we become the thing we're trying to get rid of...

Well, I think there wouldn't be a problem if people would just... relax, you know? Everyone takes themselves and their petty little causes so... so seriously! And sometimes you just look at it and think "Why does this even matter?" And most of the time you can't think of an answer except for some petty catch-phrase spouting that you don't really need to think about.

Yes I suppose that's true. But unless you cast an Imperius on every single person in the Wizarding World Holy Hufflepuff did I really just say that? I don't think that would be remotely possible. Though it'd be nice if people just stopped caring about blood. I mean, really, unless we all want to end up completely nutters because we've all married our cousins I don't think purebloods will be able to survive anyway. I can't even believe "real" purebloods have lasted this long...

It's true, inbreedingdoes tend to end up in insanity coughmalfoycough but it makes perfect sense from a medieval point of view, you know. I mean if you're going to have an arranged marriage anyway you're better off not marrying a Muggle, it's a security risk. It's because they take themselves too seriously that they can't change with the times.

Wait, so you're saying we should be marrying our cousins?! Come on MacMillan, get with it, show them all you're not as dumpy and ignorant as they think you are!

No, I'm saying it made sense in the Middle Ages to only marry purebloods. Muggles had a lot more mob mentality back then. Honestly, what's with the spate of inability to read around here?

And now she thinks you're an idiot! Smooth MacMillan...

I...can read. I just--well I wasn't sure is all. You were just calling the pureblood elitists "medieval" is all. And yes, I suppose they are a bit shortsighted to not realise that it's safe to marry outside the family nowadays. And I'm sorry if I've cause you more stress. Was just curious, I suppose.

Oh. I suppose I should have realised that...I don't think we really spend much time talking outside classes, now that I think about it... And here I thought I could meet everyone before seventh year...

I'm not a people person. I'm really not. But hey, you seem able to hold up a decent conversation. It's a fairly rare trait.
