I completely agree with how underused Ianto was, and I'd add that, at least in my eyes, his characterization was really wonky. In a way, how vague his portrayal was had its uses--he was the perfect character to explore further in fanmaterial, for instance--but at other times it had me glaring at my TV screen and begging for consistency, or at least exposition which would explain actions. Here's hoping for S2!
I also agree that Ianto's an amazingly strong character--in fact, in my opinion he's probably one of the strongest, if not the strongest, in Torchwood: losing Lisa definitely hardened something up in him. (That was not intended to come out as suggestive as it did.) As I said, I can see where you're coming from with the too-easy-submission thing and I'll definitely bear it in mind; it really makes sense to me.
