Time, once again, to expand my horizons, so I embark on the
Guide to Socialism helpfully suggested by a friend of mine in response to my comment that socialism seemed to be making a comeback in South America. He responded, "Yes, and with the usual results. As it turns out, human beings aren't smart enough to centrally plan an economy, and so they fail spectacularly when they try. Venezuela, for example, is an oil producing country that, thanks to socialism, can't produce enough oil for itself, let alone export." Since I take recommendations, I'll let you know what I think later.
